Does the Umbie's show the blue freckles right now I cant tell if the flash bleached them out or if they are to young to show the blues. Overall are you happy with the Umbies or are they lacking? The Regani are sweeeeeeettttt so are the Catemacos they remind me of the Conkeli from a few years back they can be hard on each other keep a watchful eye on them if they are the same fish. I have had great success with Don

The male umbee does have a good amount of blue freckles on it's face. They look very much like the ones Rapps brought in a while back. Mostly yellow colored. Several people on here have some of them and from there pictures they are coloring up nicely. I'm not sure that they will ever be as blue as some of the aquarium strains though. I guess I won't really know if I'm satisfied with them until they are adults. I suspect they are going to be pretty nice though.

I believe the Catemaco are the same fish as the Conkeli but I would have to ask to be sure. So far the swim around the pond together and are not showing any aggression. They have a lot of room to roam though so I'm not sure that really compares to wha they would do in a much smaller tank. Several folks have said that they are pretty aggressive though so I'm sure they can or will be.

That's odd I thought wild caught fish would be more colorful then tank raised, however they all are awesome fish. I think GM's smaller umbie is one of Rapps from a little while ago. So if that's the case they are going to be stunners. Mine are on the way they will be here Monday, I'm so stoked. I'll have mine on a high quality diet and keep them in optimal conditions and hope for the best.

I believe he has a pair that have already bred a while back. Time will tell on these ones from Don. I suspect they are going to turn out nearly identical to GM's though.

Conkeli and the 'piebald' Fenestratum are the same fish.

In your opinion, is Catemaco in there too? Or another species?

I think all three are the same, but there is a definite type being sold as Catemaco -- more of a pale fish with darker fins.

Sorry, when I said Piebald I mean 'Catemaco'. I think they are all the same fish or P. cf Fenestratum "Catemaco". Isn't Conkeli a made up name by an LFS or something?

Oops, i just pulled out Conkel's book and on the first page is a sp. "Conkel". I thought there was something about Don taking his name off this fish or something fairly recently? After all this book is what, almost 20 years old? But after yet further review he has all the various Fenstratum labelled as "Conkel" in his book on pages 141-142.

To me they are all the 'Piebald' variant collected from the "Catemaco" region. I've never really liked the various piebalds out there and haven't kept them in a loooong time so I am no expert. No offense to anyone. Just not my thing.

For what its worth I've never seen them labelled as "Conkeli" on his lists. In fact an LFS in SF that gets all there CA's from him called them Pink Fenestratum. Thinking back on it I think he took all the names off the fish he had labelled with other names a long time ago (See pages 165-170) due to the debate of them being possibly naturally occurring hybrids, notice I said naturally occurring. My memory is fuzzy on this but it was a few years back I believe. To be clear, this is no slight against Don.
