New fish room, pictures as I go.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's looking great. I am also interested in seeing how it looks stained. I might have missed something but what is the reason for dividing the bottom of the stand into three seperate sections?

Here is another easier / cheaper way to do the outputs for your ugj system. Cut some pieces of 3/4" pvc about 1 1/2" long then boil them for about five minutes. Once it softens up take some pliers and make your jets.

U dont even have to boil them, just run some hot water through the water and they end up very soft :)

And yes, i know how you feel about the workload of the build. It's alot of work when its done by one person. Stand looks nice, looking forward to seeing the finish. hurry!

I just got back from the dentist, starting to boil the pvc now, any one know if I can use the rustolium brand paint? they have some for platic. I have 3 compartments for stroage, I was also thinking about in the futrue if I move and cant use the sump I can throw 2 or 3 FX5's down there, I ran power to each sectionamd left room to run 1 inch pv into each section if I needed to. The OSB looks okay stained not as nice of course as plywood, I think it will look better once I throw the clear coat on it. I might not even put the clear coat I havent decided just yet. I will try to get some pictures this weekend.

I filled my tank with water, no leaks, no strange sounds for the stand. I was over joyed, I dump in some prime heaters and hooked it up to the filtration, and let it rip; everything went perfect. I was so happy, excited to be moving my friends tomorrow to their new home. I thought I would take the rocks out of the current tank and put them in the new tank so I could just transfer teh fish and bio media tomorrow once the tank is warm.

That is where the sadness comes into play, since the fish had no place to hide they got agressive; my biggest bala shark jumped out teh tank knocking off the broken lid. I found him dead on the floor I was very sad for he was the biggest 6.5", they only had a few more hours.

Well I guess its better to have one fish die, rather then the stand failing under the weight; so I guess I should be happy about that. I want to replace him so I have 5 bala's so they can feel a little happier, but I almost feel bad replacing him.

Thanks for listening to my rant. I will borrow a camera next weekend and show you the tank.

I don't know anything about Rustoleum but Krylon Fusion Spray paint is safe to use in aquariums.

What I meant by the three compartments was why seperate them rather than leaving them open to each other to make your life easier when doing plumbing or adding larger filters. It's really not a big deal I was just wondering if you had a reason. I like to keep it open so I can work under the tank easier.

Sorry to hear about your bala. It always sucks to lose a fish.

Went with Krylon fusion, wanted to be safe not sorry, so I made a extra trip to wally world.

I like the way it looks with compartments, my only regreat is I should have built the plumbing in rather then leave room for it later. It will take more work to get the plumbing in now.

You certainly accomplished your goal then, it looks very nice with the three compartments. As for regrets I have never set up an aquarium that I didn't have several. The key is to learn from them.
