New Flowerhorn Not Aggressive

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks boomer. But guys its not a new born fish, its a 5-6" fish and I put it in a cycled tank and was earlier eating pellets. I know its a new environment but now what happened suddenly and how did it lose its personality suddenly. Please can you tell me the reason.

Its not eating and has"lost it personality" because its been moved to a new envitonment. How are you not getting this.

Mine did the same. As above, the cause is the move, new water, new home, new surroundings even new foods. Needs time. Once settled, will act like it is supposed to. Mine refused to eat for 4 days, and being honest, only thing mine ate was live foods, which I had to source first. After a week or so, it took frozen. And now a month on, takes all pellets, still a tad fussy on some freeze dried stuff.

Also try garlic sauce. I was advised to soak foods in garlic sauce (which I made myself with garlic/water, check Youtube or can buy ready made stuff), and has antibacterial properties as well as making it more appealing to fish, and has to say must have helped.

Like others have said its just the stress of the move, new tank / water chemistry. Give him a few more days and it will come around. You might have to starve it for a couple days to get it back on pellets after the big move to your tanks. It is a beautiful flowerhorn and hope you all the best with him.

give it a few weeks and keep it hungry. It will destroy anything u put in there in a few weeks, including fingers if u put them close enough.

He's not the same because of the move. U don't know if he was in good water, bad water, cold/hot, soft/hard. So even if you had perfect conditions the store may have had horrible conditions and now he's just taking his time and breathing in some fresh water and learning about his space.

My best advice is to do what you would normally do with it every day until it understands you're not a threat. Put food in, take food out, sit and stare for hours, eat, drink, sing, watch porn, whatever floats your boat. The more he sees you the quicker he'll be comfortable around you

Hello everyone,

Thanks a lot guys, this is the best website because of you people providing so much informative and experienced advises. I just realised I just need to calm down, I have been in this hobby for about 3 years but sometimes I just lose patience.

Btw guys I starved it for 12 hours and in the evening I dropped a Hikari Cichlid Gold pellet and he ignored it then I tried the Okiko Platinum Pellet which the shopkeeper used to feed him, it ate it but one at a time by chewing them completely. When I took out the dried shrimp to feed him and waved in front of the glass it started to fellow it because he likes shrimps more than pellet. Later I dropped another Okiko Pellet after feeding shrimp but he ignored it after as he wanted more shrimps. Good news is that I am happy he is not blind and eating pellets.

Also I am very confused about the Hikari Pellets. He never eats any Hikari Pellets, neither Hikari Floating Cichlid Gold neither Hikari Bio Gold Plus nor the Hikari Massivore Delite. Even my Dovii who was in the same tank earlier ignored Hikari pellets completely and ate Tetra bits instead. I am starting to wonder if there is anything wrong with Hikari Pellets? They are supposed to be the best but it seems there is something in the Pellet which makes the fish ignore it.

Thank you and Kind Regards,
Additya

Mine prefers the Hikari Cichlid Excel (the green stuff) moreso then the Gold. Give that a go. Also try bloodworm, would take that easier I think to begin with.

erm... i don't think 12 hours is called starving... lol

i have no issues with hikari for my other fishes but i feed my flowerhorn, okiko heads up and grand sumo and live frogs... he love the live frogs and eat the pellets grudgingly

They are very personable fish, and each one is different. It is not uncommon for a flowerhorn of any size or age to act differently in a new environment.
The longer he is in his new enviroment the more he'll settle in, try not to change it up. Also the more you interact with him, the more he'll recognize you and interact with you. I've had flowerhorns with instant personality following me and ones that have taken months to warm up to me. In the end they are all like water puppies in their own unique way. I breed, import, and have my pet flowerhorns, one of my pet flowerhorns I imported from Thailand and he was absolutely crazy right out of the box. Another one of my personal pet flowerhorns is so laid back I can have him in a tank with anything and he could care less. He is still a great fish, he took like two months to warm up to me. He's actually my favorite as he swims right up to the tank to see me because he likes it when I pet him and hand feed him treats. Anyway your fish is a great looking flowerhorn and he will come around.
