New pickup - Tigrinus

Mine would only eat about the same and it is similar size, the key with them is to not over feed, especially not fatty foods and try not to feed until the bump of food has gone down. I feed mine a small amount every couple of days and I wouldn't worry about skipping a few.

If you feed worms next time then third time try something else such as a bit of mussel chopped or a small bit of fish, I expect it will eat fine now, just don't let it fix on worms, don't be aftraid of not feeding for a week and then try another food.

I am just training a fire eel that is over 18 inches and the previous owner fed it 150 live river shrimp per week, it has taken a week to get it on to worms and now I need to get it on to frozen foods then pellets ideally.

So Tigrinus are small eaters? Yes still trying market prawn

I managed train my fire eel also about 18 inches now. on frozen market prawn, use to be on fresh ghost shrimp... what I did was only feed the ghost shrimp on sat and sunday... mon to fri I will just feed the frozen prawn for my other fishes.... in less than a month he starts eating the market prawn now

Now I am feeding him the market prawn stuffed with hikari food sticks... So far so good

These might be too but there are quite a few old threads where the tig begins to float upside down and lose control if they feed too much, some people quoted fatty deposits in the brain but who knows.

i don't intend to glutton feed him but 3 earthworms a day seems to be a tad little.... i searching online for the nutritional value of earthworms but seems not to be able to find anything

gonna try cutting a long strip of shrimp tonight and see if he will eat

I think it will eat almost anything once used to a hand, forceps or chopsticks being near. 3 earthworms a day is still a fair amount. You can feed the worms to add nutritional value.

Feed a small worm then offer something else, I expect it will take it, if not wait for 3 days with nothing and do the same,

I tried again just now , tried 1 prawn and he refuses to eat...

Then fed earthworm and he ate 1 only...

Shall stop feeding next 2 days and try again

You are getting there so just keep in the same path, great news on the fire eel. I am breaking my fire eel off the live river shrimp the previous owner fed solely, he is taking worms by hand and small bits of prawn from foreceps, it won't be long before he eats anything in front of him, I am sure of that.
