Nitrates beware!

You should switch lighting to high presure sodium. That's the best lights for plants. That's what most illegal crops of weed are grown with.
A 250 or 400 watt

I like my 18 watt bulb just fine and you can tell the meter man I said so :)

Lucky bamboo does better in indirect sunlight or shade so I think the high pressure sodiums would cook it

I have one going out and two coming in over the next week or two. It was a hard decision to make but I think it will be the right one

You guys will just have to hang in there and see, If there is anything your ISO Trev let me know I can see if I can add it to my order

You can even ditch the light you have. That particular 'bamboo' only needs glancing sunlight...what you have is likely too much even at 18W.

I added about 15 very mature stocks in an AquaClear 40 flowing at the lowest rate it can go to. In my 90 with a single ray, I have not seen a drop in nitrAte. I would like to double the bamboo amount before I make any decisions one way or the other. I think a faster growing plant that consumes more food through the water would be better at processing nitrates. I'm no hydroponics expert however. Keep us posted of any updates!

Will do, I am monitoring closely to see how the plants are reacting to the light so far so good. It will be easier to dial in the amount of light once I get a timer hooked up to them

Totally agree, it is the growth rate that strips the nitrate.

Cool article thanks for sharing. I may also add some pothos eventually gonna give the lucky bamboo a few months to see what happens first

Well, it's been about 10 days and I have about 7 stocks of mature 'bamboo' and 3 pothos stems that are about 4 feet long with leaves. Although I do notice a reduction in nitrate, it's not significant. I'd like to triple the pothos and double the bamboo and see how that works. Anyone else have some results?

the pathos i threw in my sump has finally started to grow new leaves, but it took a long a** time tho im talking months. prolly took that long to grow new roots that were more apt to grow in water.
