Did NF changed their statement recently? There's no mention of 100% preservative free in their food or i missed it? It says now "All of NorthFin’s Premium Product Line consist on formulas which are 100% Filler Free, By-Product Free, Artificial Pigment Free and has no added hormones".

Check their product page:

NorthFin Premium Fish Foods does not use any preservatives or harmful chemicals to preserve its product line.

The combination of certain ingredients/vitamins, along with the drying process itself allows the foods to be naturally preserved.

Not sure how any of the fish food manufacturers get away from any preservative of krill. You literally have hours before the krill is not useable.

It's processed immediately on board their ships. As explained by the rep, vacuum packed with nitrogen, resulting in being naturally preserved.

If the posting of the person who worked for a krill manufacturer is true, then using anything but ethoxyquin would easily raise the price of krill by double. The fish food manufacturers would then increase their prices to be on a higher end than others. I haven't seen much of a difference in price between NF, Tropical, or NLS.

It's true, after initially reading his comment I personally verified the source of that comment. Just using common sense, does it sound like that was someone talking out of their arse? I certainly wouldn't think so. His info was all spot on, from only someone that works within the biz would know.

As far as cost, that remains to be seen, I think you are forgetting that NLS is just switching over to Naturox. The plan was for Sept, but then a hurricane of epic proportions hit the coast of Florida which impacted everyone in the line of fire. New Life is based in Homestead FL.

Secondly, unlike many food vendors New Life owns their own land, equipment, etc, and manufactures their own food on site. By removing the middle man they are able to better control the entire manufacturing process, including costs of raw ingredients. Is the switch to non EQ krill going to increase production costs, absolutely, but from what I was told by the owner they were going to keep retail costs as is. That may change, I honestly have no idea. The owner of New Life is close to 80 yrs of age, not everything is about $$$.

NLS has by far the most superior ingredient list on the market that I have found available in USA. Their cost isn't even the highest. This is the only pellet I feed these days because I trust the quality so much.

Northfin isn't allowed on the property ;)

That's better! Using different preservatives. Well done on NLS. I agree it is the best food. Tropical brand is ethoxyquin free and uses BHA & BHT instead which is in human food and on the GRAS list but who the hell knows these days as like you said Neil, only way to find out is testing with a lab report.

I was just thinking back to when I bought my first bucket of NLS approx. 15 yrs ago, the cost was $50 US. Today, the cost for that same formula (cichlid formula) is still $50, yet the formula has clearly advanced in quality over the years. SA Krill is still the primary form of protein, along with fish, and squid, soybean isolate was dropped from their ingredient list years ago, and the increase and assortment of algae/seaweed has not only improved the nutrient levels and bioavailability of certain nutrients, it has also allowed the amount of wheat to be reduced as the algae also acts as a binding agent.

Not many things in life carry the same price tag as they did 15 yrs ago, and certainly not where the overall quality of the product line has at the same time improved.
