Patio Pond - Mom Wants One - Potential stocking and building?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you! I think I will opt with some pond lined for the barrel. If we end up getting 2, one with have a lotus. Plants that I would like include dwarf cattail, red root floaters, hornwort, and some Kind of lotus. Also, I am getting barrels from Home Depot; cut in half. Previously used for whisky.

Continuing on with this project. Dad decided on 2. Getting barrels, and getting 7x10 pond liner for each one. One will have either some killifish/livebearers, or a Dojo Loach or 2. Preferably the Dojo Loaches. I don't think they need a heater and can live outside without problems, but just want to run it through you. One barrel will have Hornwort, Dwarf Cattail, Red Root Floaters, a singular Mosaic Plant, Creeping Jenny, and on a small land part,a singular Oak Creeping Fig that can roll down the barrel or go wherever it wishes, and one other plant for me to find out. The second one will be simple: most likely Lillies, and/or Water Lettuce with Cambomba.
Dojo's would go in the one with Dwarf Cattail, and most likely a few ornamental fish such as a comet and 2 Fancy Goldfish would go in the one with lillies and/or water lettuce. Any thoughts on the plant stocking?

Hey, if I had some caves, do you think I could fit in a Freshwater Sculpin instead of Goldfish? Would be pretty sweet. If so, maybe switch the sculpin over to the one with lillies, and have the goldfish in the nice ornamental one?

Right, I'll give it a go:

3 goldfish should work maybe, but it depends on how hot the temperature gets.

Personally I wouldn't do dojos. Too big.

Dithers depends on what dither fish you were thinking about.

I'd much rather do corydoras over dojos tbh. Barbs could also work well depending on species (goldens would work well I think)

I would skip the goldfish as in my opinion they are a temperate species, and aren't made for living outside in cali, but I would highly recommend skipping on the sculpin as they need very coldwater and lots and lots of flow.
