People need to relax up in here

Guys, don't be afraid to post your questions here. I can understand how some of you feel but if we don't post here, how will others benefit from your questions and then forthcoming good advice? This is what we are here for.

If someone starts posting rude remarks, then please report them to the staff and we will deal with them accordingly. Inflammatory remarks are no excuse and will not be tolerated.

Click this button just below the avatar when you report questionable remarks.

yea well im not about to report every stupid flame that is post .. i would never have time to take care of my fish

That's not what I am talking about. If you do find a post that you think is unreasonable especially when directed to eager beginners for no reason, then by all means, report them otherwise others follow the same trend and think just because one is flaming another, they think it is okay to flame. This in itself is a timebomb machine that would for the most part disrupt the community flow altogether as many members become irritated by continuing flaming trends. In the long run, it becomes extremely difficult for us to nip it in the bud if allowed undetected by staff. This is why we need the community's help. We are not always around to keep everything in order. Your help would mean a lot to us.

Again, I am not saying to start reporting every inflammatory post because not every post needs to be reported. Just report what you think is being unreasonable on their part.

yea i know what your saying .. but anymore its just as easy just to 100% ignore MOST people here .. they dont want to help .. they just want to shoot off .. but im so used to it anymore i just ignore people ..

just like i dont want to talk to people about how im getting rays this week.. because there going into a 150 gal tank .. all that is, is the start of a GIANT flame war about how stupid i am and how i need a bigger tank .. like i dont know this .. no one wants to chip in some advice on how to keep them.. just tell me over and over what im doing wrong .. so .. i just wont post anything ..

I agree with you Iffrat. I joined this forum solely to get advice from people that have been down the road that I am now traveling. Ive either gotten the good ole cold shoulder, or the people that have answered my questions seemed irritated...I understand that the questions new people like myself have may seem a little repetitive...but to people that are dealing with the problems and trials and tribulations for the first time dont think of it that way. Because of the lackluster response Ive recieved from members of this forum, Ive sort of strayed away a little bit because Im scared to ask a question for fear of being flamed.

I would agree, I have kept fish for 20+ years in the cichlid and oddball area.
Always had a fascination with rays but was always hesitant to move into
this area of the hobby because of lack of knowledge and space issues.
In 2007 I learned of MFK. I tended to stay in the background
until I became more comfortable with the whole forum scene. I visited
the ray forum on a number of ocassions and used to think wow some
of these peeps are real azzwholes. So having a new home with much
more space I decided I was getting into rays. (Last Year) I did plenty
of research on internet and used stickies and threads on MFK and Others.
But you know what I didn't do, I would not ask questions on MFK stingray
forum because of fear I would be flamed and made to look like an AZZ.
I have become more comfortable with giving some advice. But still am
very hesitant to ask, for the same fears. I to have asked some members
for advice through PM's for the same reasons.

I agree Boggy, it is an elitist attitude. It is the same reason peeps
don't want to post at Planet Catfish.

Ive even heard some members complain when others repeat advice that
they had once given. Calling it regurgitated. Id be willing to bet that these
same members have regurgitated some type o advice somewhere along
the lines from other more experienced hobbyist.

I know that Newb questions get old and not all peeps are going to do
what they are advised, but like Lupin stated that is the full purpose of
MFK to help others not to make the same mistake.
If you don't want to help or don't like what is being asked move on.

And Iffrat, Nothing wrong with a 150 to start ray pups out in. Its what
I use right now 6' x 2' x 20"

On the other hand......

Rays are not a fish for newbies, so if someone has to ask some of those ultra-newbie questions should they be keeping a ray?

But who is to say that this Ultra Newb wont be the next David W :) but doesn't because he was steered/driven away from this mentality.

Should people be keeping Redtail cats, arapaima, Armatus or GATF etc. It isn't up to me to decide/judge but as long as they are made available in the industry then people will.
