Pet hyena

And these pictures sure send wrong message to these people think its okay to keep hyenas as pets. Hyenas were little or never domesticated. Its not uncommon for animal sanctuary have to deal with too many exotic animals, especially too many tigers and lions in some sanctuaries. Many exotic animals ended in canned hunts, taxidermies and sometimes into the wild. That can be future for most hyenas. And its not uncommon to see headlines in newspaper when the exotic animals attacking the people..

Aha! This is something altogether different though. This is a completely different point and direction from where you were heading before, and I agree with you 100% on this one.



Before, however, you were saying wild mammals should not be kept as pets. I do not necessarily agree with you there. Now you are suggesting that the problem is not keeping wild mammals as pets, rather, the problem is the people who are keeping these animals. That, my friend, is something I can back you up on.

Where did the first domesticated dogs come from? It's easy to critisize a developing nation when your from a country that is stable enough to worry about the enviroment and your own dinner plate. If you can convince them to stop doing the only thing that they know how to do to survive do you have a job to offer them.

Well, the domesticated between dogs and the hyenas have different reasons. The dogs help the humans to survived the wildness. Hyena simply help their owners to get money from tourist and buyers. That is different reason. Are the hyena's keepers skinny and bones? They look muscular..

Same place people everywhere in the world got their wild animals, and some even still do today-they catch them. 50, 60, 80 years ago, America was still comparatively as developed of a country as it is today-and much more so than many African countries are today. People started wanting animals for zoos and private collections-where did they get them? They went out and caught them. To get a gorilla, it was too difficult to actually go out and live trap large adult gorillas, so they'd find a troop, kill as many adults as they had to to steal the babies, then ship the babies back home to be put in zoos. No, I don't think it's right, but it's not fair to criticize these people from other cultures for doing it when ours has done the same things.

Also, there are few fish you can argue are domesticated. Fancy goldfish? Sure, I'd accept them being called domesticated as they have been raise by humans for over 1,000 years and greatly changed from their wild ancestors. Tetras and cichlids and such-just because they're captive bred from a pet store does not make them domestic. You could buy a tiger that is 10 generations captive bred from a private breeder and that is NOT a domestic animal. Captive does not equal domestic. If I were to take a stance completely against keeping "wild" animals, I'd be left with 2 cats and a dog...
 
  1. Their is no anti venom if your hyena decides to rip your face off.
  2. I own a pit bull and I am a strong guy who would not hesitate and am very confident I could crush its esophagus if it tried to kill me.I am not in any way confident that I could get a big cat or hyena to stop eating my skull.
  3. Again,I encourage you to have yourself a little day dream of one eating your face while still alive.I would rather be in prison for life with Bubba than to be eaten alive by a large animal.
  4. I love and like some of you have always wanted an animal of the sort,but the thought of having a family and you know how kids are,if they want to mess with something they will,or their friends will and theirs just too many things that can go wrong.
  5. I think it really is a gamble to keep a wild animal because sure some stay cool for life,but some dont,and with the luck Ive had my last 3 Vegas trips,I think I would get the one that eventually had me with a side of mashed potatoes for dinner.You just never know,look how mad a nippy little dogs can get,every animal has the urge to get mad now and then but these large and more proud or timed animals can do the damage in an eye blink.

LOL! lets just hope that these animals aint in my area, they are fair game for me and my 30 06 bolt rifle, unless its rhino or elephant.

Didn't say the owners wern't doing well, they are well taken care of themselves. These animals are helping them to survive, this is how they know how to make a living. i'm not saying anyone without the knowledge to keep these animals should get one, i'm saying they use the hyenas to make a living because it is the only way THEY know how.

I have had dwarf goats and pot belly pigs in my front yard which are easy enough to shooo away but wouldnt want an adult hyena lol.

Well they said they might make it illegal to keep hyena in Florida if it move up to Class 1, depends on what fatally mistake the morons made. i blamed on these irresponible owners for make the laws stiff on exotic animals and snakeheads these days...I want a snakehead :(
