head shape seems different from reds.
I totally agree, if it was not for the humeral spot I would have no idea on the ID. I am still not 100% sure. Also this fish had a very bad case of fin rot at 2.5'' and lost its entire tail fin and most of its dorsal fin. It took 3 weeks of antibiotics and methylene blue at 90 degree's in a hospital tank to get past that. And then another month to get its fins back to 100%. That may or may not have something to do with its smaller size and different look. The other 4 have been fine all along. Outside of a odd jumper during a water change. lol

Thanks for all the comments.

Well damn I lost one last night. I came down stairs this morning and there it was on the floor. I have glass lids on the tank and the only place that it could have gotten out is beside the filter tubes. There was a spot that was around 2''x3'' that was open. I think these guys are ready for the bigger tank. They are in a 75 right now which is 4'x18''x21''. And I have noticed they are getting more skittish lately. I guess its time to set up there 125.

I am thinking of getting a school of them, your look awesome. That suckz you just lost one. I wanted a school of cudas, yellow or red and my LFS had odoes and I got 3 of them instead, and they are awesome fish but do not school or swim much which I thought they would. Eat like champs, and greet me when I enter the room but I should of tried to get the cudas.

Just how skittish are they? (my pikes are not at all) Do they school well and constantly swim togather? or just scatter around the tank, there are hardly any youtube videos so I can not get a good idea of how they will act. Thank you, nice tank.

thanks--- well they school all the time. But they do not move around all the time. They mostly stay in the middle of the tank on one end or the other. Also they may not move alot in my tank because of the filtration I have. I have the tank flowing at a 35x turn over rate. So they are swimming all the time even though they are not moving really. They are not very skittish as long as I am not messing with there tank. But I have had one jump out on 3 occasions. The first was when they were being moved from a 30g tank to there now 75g. And the fish was in a net, so that one is my fault. The second time was during a water change. As soon as the water started to pour back into the tank from the python hose, it scared them and one made a jump for it. And then this last one that jumped at night and died. I really don't know what happened. The only thing i can think of is that I have my light on a timer. So when it etheir went off or came on that might have set it off.-------------------------------------------------- Overall they are a great fish to keep for anyone that likes predators. And will provide live fish for food. And wants a challenge. The only thing i would do differently is double the amount I have.:grinno:

Haha, How many ace's do you have? You also have payara correct, your tanks must rock?!?! Yea they sure are awesome fish!

My lfs never get them in stock which angers me. But I did have some in the past from a seller from MFK that lives 30 min from me, I emailed him yesterday and if nothing another petstore can get them, maybe ill pay upfront to confirm they come in. I am up for the challange and my water stays good, I think you posted on a sick thread I made about a week ago, which all my fish are doing great now. Dang vacations haha.

And about the live feeders and watching them eat, THATS THE ONLY REASON I FISHKEEP ! ! ! ! !

I had 6 aces 4 yellows and 2 reds to start with. And now i am down to 4. I got them at 2''ers and one red died the first night in the tank. And the other got a bad case of fin rot but recovered after a hundred bucks worth of antibiotics :WHOA:. And then I had one yellow jump ship. I did have 3 red tailed payara also but after a ice storm last winter that knocked out the power for a week, I only have the one. I have my computer in a corner desk with a 125 on each side. And my dream is to have one with 6 red tailed payara and the other with cuda's. some day I hope

Your computer is in the perfect spot, and its no problem to take a pic of somthing and post it on this website :D. HAHA Nice dream, nothing wrong with that, I am just behind you with about the same tank in mind. That sucks about the fin rot I hear they get it easy.

Do the yellows and reds school togather? Did you order any fish off a seller on this website or LFS?

I had 3 of these, 1 died the first night, the other 2 got bullied so bad and would have gotten eaten (had to keep my tank FULL of feeders), I had to give them to a friend. They should have come in 6 inches they were like 3 and not even a pencil width. I think they were A. Isalina, as where I want Falcatis, or Falcirostris. (red or yellow) I dont know though good luck!!!!

The fish you posted is identical to 4 out of the 6 that I had. I was sure they were A. Isalina. And I was kind of bummed about it because that would mean they would top out at 4''. I got mine at about 2.5'' and in the few months that I have had them they have doubled in size and almost completely lost there striping. i beleive that my once striped ones are yellows but they could be another species. The red and the yellows do school together. There is a vendor on here that has reds in stock, TFD or tropical fish distributors. They are out of ohio. I was actually going to order from them the same day I found mine locally. Once i get them in the 125 i will post pics. But it will be a while as i am in the planning stages for there filtration.
