Pics from the ACe cuda tank

Thanks alot, I need to get busy and get these guys in the big tank.

Awesome fish, awesome tank!!! I GOT EM IN!!!!

They were a mix between red tails and yellow tails. I lost 2 red tails and its been about a week and I think the weak died off, next time my LFS gets in a shipment I will wait about a week untill the sick ones thin out at his place. It seems there was nothing I could do, they showed few signs of being sick, and the next morning they were on the filter. BUMMER!!!! I like the redtails look more, but dig them both.

How long have you had yours, 6+ sounds good, what where the starting stats? Do you have them off live at all, I heard worms and crickets they will take easy?

Here is a good link hope it works. This is a great website. http://www.thewatersnake.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=766&mode=threaded&pid=36418

Got any water tips for me because you seem to have some sharp looking fish? My PMs are always perfect at oAmmonia oNitrite and about 25nitrate. I test my water weekly and perform a WC weekly also. I have been adding stress coat API and Melafix API and a teaspoon of API salt per 5 gallons regularly with my water changes to try and keep their protective coat strong. I have seen them all eat and I am sporting 2 red tails and 3 yellow tails. The LFS will be getting another shipment in and I want a few more reds.

PICS LATER TODAY ! ! !

great i can't wait to see the pics. I have had these since the first of march. So about 4.5 months. They started at 2.5'' and the yellows are now all between 6-7'' and what I think is a red is about 4''. So the yellows grew about a inch or more a month. And I am unsure if the reds just grow slower or if it was this ones rough start that stunted its growth. As for tips. I would say to make sure there is no way for them to jump out. And keep the temp in the low to mid 80's for a few months. To help fight off disease. And watch them close for any signs of fin and tail rot. And that is about it. I have allways fed live and never tried to break them. I don't plan on ever trying, but it should not be that hard. Generally its easier to break a fish from live when they are more aggressive at eating. And when these guys get hungry they will try to eat each other. As I learned the hard way. They eat about 5 guppies a day between 2.5 and 5''. And then I switched them to large platy's and fat head minnows. So when you can get those pics up. :headbang2

I thought I posted them last night, I at least owe you somthing for the wait haha.

This is the quarantine tank, and now they are in the main tank. I am having a hard time with them though. The strange thing is I hardly ever lose fish, and I have lost some of the barracuda, but my water pms are in line. I figured they would get fin rot slowly, do they die overnight? They seem to be fine and in the morning one will be dead, I dont know if it is fin rot, or the tetra.

Well fin rot can kill them in 12hrs. If the fins are messed up then that is probably it. If it were me I would go ahead and treat the tank with some jungle labs fungus clear and salt and have the temp around 85. That way the meds will help with any fungus issues you may not be able to see and the salt will help calm them and the temp will help to heal them faster. How many have you got left? They look nice, I am sure as soon as you get them past the acclimation stage, and healed from the shipping they will settle in very well.

Davey, how many did you have, how many did you lose to death?

I am starting to think they are infected from the pet store! I have never had bad luck like this, and have had tanks since I was a kid! I have noticed little thread like worms protruding from their anus, looks a lot like camallanus worms, which I did get 3 infected fish from him in the past, but they dont seem to live long enough to see what happens. He tried to BS me that the worms are not a big deal and will pass through and die out. He said to be passed from fish to fish they need to have a bird eat the infected fish, poop in the water have a snail eat the poop and have a fish eat the infected snail!!!! I have studied about this and was angry and said when the worms come out they lay eggs nonstop and fish eat them off the bottom, or copepods eat them and then fish, making them hard to kill and handle. No the worms wont kill the fish, most all fish have worms. I have come to the conclusion that I will not buy any more fish from him. There is 1 more LFS that con get them and I will try that!

Hybrid thank you for responding and helping me out. How many did you say you started out with? How many did you lose by death? How long before you noticed they were getting sick and then died? Sorry about the strange questions but it seems like mine are droping like flys and with no sign of anything. I just droped my temp from about 85 to 82, I am adding salt. If my A N N PH are good will it hurt to do another WC can I lose my biofilter?

I am down to 2 and one is developing fin rot, he was ok after work at about 2 and at 7 he has some rot starting on his mouth. I will take your advise and get the jungle tabs right after work and I hope it works. You should see my med cabinate haha it is growing.

I have had my tank set up for just over a year and the filter has been running about 1.5 yrs. I have a good bio filter, I have API's test kit, ammonia-0 nitrite-0 nitrate-25 and ph 8. Should I adjust my ph to 7 with the neutralizer like I did in the past? I heard let the fish get used to my tap water ph.

I have them with the V-tetras, seems to be no fighting. (simaler sizes) One last thing I seriously ruined my tank and lost a lot of money. Traded in my arowana because it was big enough to eat them, traded in my 3 odoe pikes for them, 60 dollars on top of that and I am at 2.

It seems the more I fail the more I want to get it right. There is no way they are this imposible to keep right, what should I do. The one thing I will not do is trade in the H. TAT If you dont read all this i understand :D Thank you for your help! My camera is still freezing I will recharge the battery for some better shots.

HELP A MFK'er OUT ! ! ! !

i started with 6 in hopes of having 3 in the end. I have 4 at the moment doing fine. I have tried to keep them on many other occasions(8-10x) but I could only get one here and there, never a group like now. In the past they all died with in 3 days from fin and tail rot. And I was never prepared for it when it happened, and i can remember saying to myself tomorrow i will get some meds. Well the next day they would be dead.

The group i have now started a 2.5'' and the first night one died from unknown reasons. Just stuck to the filter the next morning and no signs of rot. Then my little red got tail rot on the next day. So I stuck him in a hospital tank and had the temp at 88 degree with salt and a massive amount of meds.

MEDS-- I treated him with maracyn1 and maracyn2 for any secondary infection to the fungus. I treated him with jungle labs fungus clear tabs for the tail fungus. And i treated him with methylene blue which helps the fish use available oxygen better and its a anti fungal as well. I had him in a 10g tank with all these meds mixed together. On the first day i added meds at double strength. I did a daily 40-50% water change and added meds back for the water I changed. I did this for 2 weeks straight everyday.

In that time he just layed on the bottom and moved occasionally. He lost his entire tail fin and most of his dorsal in the first 3 days. After the 2 weeks of treatment I did not use anymore antibiotics (maracyns) but i continued the fungus clear and methylene and salt with high temp. After 2 more weeks like that his dorsal fin was back to 100% and his tail was back to 50% regrown from nothing.

I kept one feeder fish in the hospital tank at all times and he did eat every few days even when severely sick. Then i returned him to the main tank. I think that is why he is only 4'' long compared to the 6-7'' of the others. IMO the jungle fungus clear is great for a pretreatment, but when they actually get fin and tail rot severely they need antibiotics.

I would go ahead and treat the whole tank with the jungle labs fungus clear because it will not hurt your bio-filter as long as you follow the directions. And if you have any that have fin and tail rot, I would put them in a hospital tank and start the above mentioned treatment.

I think your ph is fine where it is at and with all the water changes you will be doing with sick fish the swing from 7-8ph(tap) maybe stressful to the fish.

I am the same way as you. I failed around 10 times at keeping cuda's and always had to try harder. I have spent about a hundred bucks on all the meds i treated my little red with and i would do it again tomorrow. (knocks on wood) I hope i never have to do it again. Good luck and don't loose hope, remember me telling you how hard these little guys were to keep.;)

vamp hear is my inspiration, maybe it will help.

That picture you posted above is AWESOME!!! I have never seen a full grown yellow, very sharp fish!!!

I am down to 1 and he has very little tail rot. I got the jungle tabs and treated my main tank.

Thanks for the tips! Although its a lot to think about, I truly do not think the payara mess with them, and from what you just said I can be pretty sure they are just stressed from all the shipping or dying from fin rot. One is still kicking and nothing after work tomorrow so it will be tank day.

Have you heard of blackwater? These are Amazon fish maybe we should think about adding the leaves/mix to the tanks, it is ketapang leaves that helps the water and fish a lot, maybe it will help the barracuda settle down after a hard shipping!?
I would like to find better sites with more information on these fish. Thanks again I think I will get the maracyn you talked about, do you think that is the best? What do you keep your PH at in each of your tanks? (I wont change mine just curious)
