Yeah i did an interstate fish swap for the turtle and i got done. Damn!!! The guy never told me it had any problems with it. So yeah im stuck with a problem on my hands. I was keeping it in a 6 by 2.5 by 2.5 tank for 4 days with fine coral sand but have taken it out and put it in the 3x2x2 foot treating tank for 2 days with salt and melafix. Also applying betadine every two days on the spot for treatment. Im gonna see how it goes. Melafix kills bacteria but i know it aint a mericle so gonna give it a shot.

so you got it off someone in this condition?

another thing that you might want to try if you can get it would be japanese yellow powder. that is quite good for most FRT treatments. or you can try a sea water bath.

Yes i got it in the condition it was in. I called him the first time when i received it and he said dont worry its only a fungus and if i treated it with betadine it would go away. Been 6 days. I dont see any fungus on the shell but the ulcer seems to be getting bigger. He doesnt bother to return my calls or even answer.

So im stuck with a problem that i am trying to sort out.

Ill see if i can get the yellow powder!!!

Like Schmike says use yellow powder and marine salt
You can alternate it
These 2 treatments usually clears up external fungus/bacteria on a FRT

However, if you don't see it improving, you really have to bring it to a vet :(

Does anyone suggest using pimafix and melafix together for a FRT treatment?

I've never used pimafix before on a FRT
Melafix can be used but results are much slower than the Japanese Yellow Powder

see if you can get baytril jabs for it. i think for this you need to consult a vet. if you can get it off the shelf, which is almost impossible, the following is the dosage:

extracted from http://www.anapsid.org/resources/rxdose.html#turtles:

Baytril (enrofloxacin)

5 mg/kg per d for 10 d SQ

up to 10 mg/kg q d
up to 15 mg/kg for 72 hr in tortoises with URI
After the initial injection by vet, the injectible may be given by mouth, increasing dose to 10 mg/kg per d for 10 day [K. Harkewicz VMD 2002]

to inject it, you need to grab hold of the FRT and inject at the fleshy area between the tail and the hind flippers.

try this out once a day for 5 days and see how's the progress.

Hey Thanks for the info.

Yeah i thought it needed some antibiotics. Anyways i found a vet that deals in turtle, he has given me meds and injection shots for 5 days. He says he dont know if the turtle will make it or not cos the fungus has made it in the blood stream but he said see how it goes. Fingers cross!!! A lesson for me to learn look before you swap or buy. There are dodgy people out there.

Thank goodness you brought it to a vet!
Yes, isolate it if possible so there is nothing to stress it and keep the water conditions clean.
Add marine salt to the water as well to prevent any other fungas attack or spread of fungus till it recovers

good to see that you brought it to a vet. hope it recovers. next time bring someone who knows about the creature that you are getting along. it will save you a lot of trouble. but then again, it may not. if i was there i would have asked you to take it and treat it for the sake of the turtle. it is a risk that i will take. :screwy:
