Ok last post. My mom and I just went this afternoon to get the two new aros I don't think the tank had been cycles because I didn't know what it was at the time. This tank and it's equipment was given to is from a friend of my moms. I guess it was an old tank and they were getting rid of it, but anyways my mom took it and we started with a couple of goldfishes then it died rather quickly because of the missing heater then after that my mom decided to go for the silver arowana since it's good luck and all. The first cleaning process that we've ever done since the new aro was to take it out and put it aside the. Siphon most of the water out then taking the gravl out then scrubbing off the algae then putting back the gravel the new tap water. The aro seemed ok so we didn't think anything of it. But before when we had the goldfishes we did the same process the fishes got sick and white spots were appearing on the fish then it later died. So you see we had start with beginner fish but it's my moms doings.

no need for a heater for goldfish. and make sure you are not doing a 100% water change. do a 25% water change. and yea its bad luck if your aro dies. read my post about aro's being bad luck.

Some of you, folks, need to step back and think over yourselves long enough to think if you had been in dire situations like this before. Just because someone committed a mistake, it is no reason for some of you to start chastising the OP. If you cannot help any further without leaving a negative feedback, please do not post. This thread underwent a massive cleanup and I do not wish to mop this up again because you cannot conform to the rules against inflammatory remarks.
thanks mod..... so the fish is still breathing... i just dont know what to do now its really weak and doesnt seem to be able to swim... my mom went out to the lfs to ask a few questions and get some kind of remedy. i just hope it doesnt die.. id hate to have bad luck at the state im in right now.
The "remedy" the fish store sells your mom will most likely make no change in the fish's symptoms. In fact, it may make things worse. The fish is in bad shape, but there is no "fish got left in bag too long" medicine. I think you should allow this fish to fight this on his own and refrain from medicating. It will only make things worse. The best thing you can do at this point is ensure that the water is well-aerated and at an appropriate temperature (I think 78 degrees Fahrenheit would be fine). Don't dump things into the tank without reason; it could kill all of your fish.
well im surely not going to throw flames here. we were all noobs at one time and i did some pretty stupid stuff when i was a beginner. to the OP-first off, i am sure you know by now that an aro becomes a huge fish and needs a very large tank. the biggest tanks i have are 180 gallons, and i would not put one aro in there. if you cannot buy at least a 6 foot long tank then get rid of the aros. aros are also notorious jumpers and can get out of tanks.. go youtube wild aros and see how they are in their natural environment.
now, you may want to read up on basic fishkeeping and waterchanges. you never empty the tank out-what you should do is a every other week waterchange of 50 percent. always use some type of dechlor like Prime, and make sure the water you are putting back in is around the same temp as the tankwater. when you clean your tank you dont want a sparkling clean sanitized tank. this will kill off all of the good bacteria that your tank does need!
i suggest you get rid of the aros, go buy a freshwater test kit and test your water parameters-id be interested in seeing your levels. and then you want to buy suitable fish for a 40 gallon--its still a good size tank, and youll have lots of options.
learn the basics of fishkeeping before you keep spending money buying aros and other unsuitable fish only to kill them with bad waterchanges. never net your fish out just to clean the tank-unless your tank is contaminated with a chemical and its an emergency.. you just stress them out.with aros you could damage their barbels and backs while trying to net them.
