Ok, well I have to say I have been having the same problem with my JD's.
Here is what I was told... spots are on males while spangles/longer stripes across the face are generally female. Also, the amount of the colour there will usually indicate.
SO, going by that I would think yours would be a male. But, like I said I am facing the same issue now. I have one in my tank that has the spots but his body is quite grey and doesn't have that much colour on the body.
but, is it common for a male JD to have a grey body with less color on it?
because i have two females that have quite a dark body with very striking color. i was under the impression this was a male trait.
also what gets me confused is that my females have pointed fins, and what i suspect is a male has a very rounded one - but the right face to be a male. so all confused.
