The classic question, male or female? Thanks for any help :)

Ok, well I have to say I have been having the same problem with my JD's.

Here is what I was told... spots are on males while spangles/longer stripes across the face are generally female. Also, the amount of the colour there will usually indicate.

SO, going by that I would think yours would be a male. But, like I said I am facing the same issue now. I have one in my tank that has the spots but his body is quite grey and doesn't have that much colour on the body.

Hope this helps at all...

but, is it common for a male JD to have a grey body with less color on it?

because i have two females that have quite a dark body with very striking color. i was under the impression this was a male trait.

also what gets me confused is that my females have pointed fins, and what i suspect is a male has a very rounded one - but the right face to be a male. so all confused.

I vote Male
