Heres a video of a nice looking pair but there seems to be confusion over which is the male as the poster seems to think the bigger fish is the female.

Cool article... Interesting what was written about why the FMs flare their gills... its an attempt to make themselves look bigger which is why the eye-spots are present on the gill plates and the gill membranes are so big.
It works like a charm. My Convict falls for it every time. In theory, he's the tougher fish.

Love this thread. Good job one raising the meeki fry. They look very healthy. I'm actually currently in search of some nice FM juveniles to buy and raise for breeding. I'd like to get some really good coloration out of the fins with the spangling and also some good red. Going to try and get 3-4 or so from two different breeders and let the 6-8 pair off and select the best pair. Keep up the great work with the gene pool ya got

I think this may be who your talking about that has been/is line breeding I found this write up awhile back
I really like the red in the FM's but this guys write up is really awesome and the fish pictured in his 5th generation of breeding after he brought in new blood from another breeder, are bar none probably some of the most beautiful looking freshwater fish I have ever seen. They may not have solid red colors but they are just so SPARKLY
