Satisfied With 300 Gallons or Want Bigger?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah... it only gets worse...
10, 20, 25, 29, 40, 55, 2x60, 75, 100*

i have a 900 square foot house... i got rid of my couch and my gfs personal library is now in the kids room...

*40, 1-60, 100 are empty at the moment.. i need to build some double stands and add some bracing to the floor...

I'll put it this way, this is like a drug, first you start with weed and then coke and then what ever other bigger and better drug there is out there. Quitting the fish hobby is much like quit drinking or doing drugs. This never ends. I don't have a 300 gallon tank but I am seeing that I am willing to take my sofa out of my basement living room to make room for a 300 gallon and possibly pissing the wife off real bad. My only safety net is my daughter and because of her my wife has not grabbed a bat and smashed my tanks. Every time my daughter says how much she loves her and daddys fish, my wife has to say "I do too darling", what a hypocrite!!. Well anyways, once I get to 300, I'll probably be ok, but that is what I said when I got my 55 and then the 150. So I don't see myself stopping untill I really can't afford it anymore.

Maybe instead of getting a 300 gallon I should try to be content with a smaller tank., especially since I wont be happy either way.

I went from 29 to 55 to 125 to 240, and now I'm going bigger......
It's a sickness.

usually stops due to spacial and financial limitations but if those didn't exist
I would cut the front and side wall out of my spare bedroom and turn it into a huge tank lol

I think most of us are limited by our budgets, space, and what our significant others will allow or in some of you kiddies cases, what your parents will allow.

If it were not for those things we'd all have giant tanks like JohnPTC and Arapaimag.

Now, will a 300g keep you happy? Sure until you have the ability to go bigger, then you will of course want to. If not then you'll have to settle.

I bought and sold a 125g before even filling it because it would have been a waste, simply put a 6x1.5ft tank isn't that big. The small depth limits it greatly. As someone said above a 6x3 is almost better than a 10x2. The depth is so key in my opinion.

Another thing to think about, if you never have dreams or something to strive for, IE; that next big tank or that next big rare monster fish then why do it? In that case you'd be done. If you were completely satisfied it wouldn't be as enjoyable because you'd have nothing left to strive for, to dream of, to wish for...

I'd love to have a 12x4x4 Tenecor custom tank, can I though? Not a chance in hell. But at least it's a something to dream about. If we all bought the tank we wanted and had it stocked exactly like we wanted it would get boring fast as there would be no more excitement left...

Go as big as you can, and no bigger. There will always be that nagging thought of 'if only', but don't worry about that. You'll enjoy your tank.

Also: consider a pond! :naughty:

I think i'll be happy when i hit 25,000......

Seriously tho, i currently have a 180 and when i get my next mortgage in a few years i'm going to try and tie in a 450 and a 900 as that's all i can justify in my head (not counting several other smaller off the shelf setups) without tanks taking over the house too much. Unless i have space and money for the 25,000 too:naughty:
