Yup that is what I was going to say. Or get some bird netting and drap it over the tank top. I had a 24/7 over my 75 no issues my polys they didn't seem to mind.
I got a small roll of black screen fabric at a hardware store and taped it to my light fixtures. Plus floating plants.
Geez sorry i havent replied. I wouldnt use baffles or compartments. Just go with filter socks on a diy holder media, heater, and your pump.

Return? You mean drain? Return shouldn't be noisy.
Drain you can put the out put below the water surface to help quite it down. Google gurgle stopper/buster or maggie muffler. Those also work. Also you can depending on set up run it as a full siphon. That's a bit more work in the plumbing department.

Only thing that comes to mind with the return is that its above water level and splashing around
