yeah, that dude seemed sketchy... but you were trying to do the right thing to help all involved.

Hopefully paypal makes the right decision, those pics should be proof, even to someone who knows nothing about rays.

I transport exactly like you describe DB, just not rays....it is the only decent way.

IF I have long trips I poke holes in 2 liter bottles and stuff them full of scrubbies from my filter. Add a 12V pump wrapped in blue bonded pad and BOOM! wet/dry for the road. This is used in addition to 12V air pumps.

I also travel with lots of clean water for water changes. I've left home with 40 gallons of clean water before.

I've had no choice but to figure this stuff out as I'm hours away from ANY pet shop that would even think about selling a stingray, and several hours from the nearest big airport. I've drove so many rays out to Chicago (7+ hours away) I don't even remember...... Never had issues with any of them.

dont be so hard on your self, yes, you should of prepared better to transport them but no amount of care in transportation could of saved that ray :(

Could it be a problem with the shipper? I mean if someone dropped some ray of to me to have it shipped in this condition I would certainly not take on the responsibility to ship it out. I've seen ammonia burn that could do that to a ray overnight. Since you said the bag was full of ray feces the ammonia level in the bag must be pretty high. Could you really blame the seller if the shipper didnt properly purge the ray before shipping out?

I'm not even gonna speculate on that. All I know is the condition of the ray I recieved. Personally IF I was the shipper, I may have handled it differently, but that's neither here nor there. This isn't a witch hunt, it's a lesson. I was happy the shipper jumped on board with me to try to get this guy some money for medical bills, the last thing I'm gonna do is toss him under the bus for agreeing to help out in the first place. He's shipped to me before and was excellent. The care taken in packing was perfect, I didn't even need to add heat packs when I picked her up.
