I didn't really see anything offensive that you said.....military members should not be in uniform at a bar. When wearing the uniform you must always realize that you are in the public eye, and need to ensure the image you are portraying is a positive one. I don't think it really makes a difference at a movie theatre as long as the military member is behaving accordingly (though against regulation) but at a bar, doesn't really give a good image.

We change out of our station wear before we leave the station. If you see firefighters in uniform out in public they are either doing public safety education or doing inspections. When we go to the grocery store we take out the engine and the crew to shop for our breakfast, lunch or dinner. We are still always on alert for calls.
Me personally I wouldnt wear my station wear off duty because people will feel I am obligated to help(although I am willing to help) and if I dont, I would give my department a bad rep.

I just think its odd to wear something like that to movie theaters. They were not recruiting anyone just watching a movie. Thats when I ask myself why?
I know a guy from high school that is in the marines who wears his uniform all the time. Every time I see him he is always in it. I feel he is wearing that just to show and make him look bad a.......
Not good enough reason to wear military uniforms in public. This is also similar to most companies which prohibit wearing of uniforms in public. If you have to go to bars and clubs, wear casual clothes. I do not see how difficult it is to change clothes. To me, wearing uniforms for the sake of bragging rights far outweighs the respect you earn in the eye of the public.
I agree that it is TOTALLY TRASHY to wear your military gear unless it is for allowed reasons. I have to also agree that the ones who are wearing them in public when it is not for allowed reason are a disgrace to their unit.
It is one thing if they are in transit to or from, no issue with that. Though huge issue when they wear it simply to make a statement in public.
When I was in The Royal Regina Rifles, we were told under no circumstance were we to be wearing our gear when off duty.
Personally, if people think they are getting extra respect by wearing mlitary dress in public they are actually doing the reverse if I were to see them. Just sort of makes me shake my head at them and wonder why they are so short on self respect that they feel the need to try to stand out in public in such a way. If they need the extra boost in self esteem by doing so, they have failed in the first regard of what it means to be military in my humble opinion.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THE WEARING OF MILITARY DRESS OR GEAR IN PUBLIC IF NOT ON DUTY!
I agree that one shouldn't wear their uniform in public unless they're on their way home and stopping at a grocery store or something. I know in ROTC if we wanted to wear our uniform (Dress, not even BDUs) to a special event that the whole squad wasn't going to we had to request special permission and have a good reason why, normally for it to be approved it would have to be a funeral (especially if the person served). With fire and ems I wont walk into a bar or place like that with identifiable clothing, I always keep a shirt in my car in case I go out after work, and if anyone sees my trauma shears on my ems pants I just tell them its for arts and crafts 
Before I even finished reading the OP, I thought there must be a recruiting office near by... They shouldn't be hanging around in their BDU's... I've met a lot of good recruiters in my time, and many many that need a good smack. Recruitment offices are usually considered "independent duty" meaning that they are far removed from any main unit and usually receive at most 1 or 2 visits a year from the CO... Now it certainly doesn't apply to everyone, but "when the cat is away..."
As for picking up chicks... I never met a girl who "just loves a man in uniform"
Yeah, Marines are a whole nother level. They're not allowed to wear flip-flops either (unless stationed in HI). I have a lot of respect for Marines, they're the only military service (as a whole) who take the regs seriously. I did 5 years in the Coast Guard (after 4 at the USCGA) and I've worked/trained with a wide variety of members from every service.

what? where do you live? never been to a fleet week? girls who love men in uniforms are all over the place. there's probably a few on this site just drooling over the mention of the word military men
Fleet Week ok, I'll give you that one... Otherwise I found it was just a myth of jealous "civilian" men lol
