you think someone who has been a member for 5 years with a post count of 5k post is a lot well its not look at bogwoodbruce post count

my debate was never with anyone who has been to jail it was with the mag who seam to have double standards when it comes to the law
Hey whats my post count got to do with anything? lol

So...HB arrived at Manaus airport, where there are huge signs all around in several languages warning about transporting bio-samples.
Instead of declaring the samples , as a legitimate researcher would have, and as he should have, he had his samples hidden in his clothes his suitcase . The samples were in ziplock bags (for crissakes!) NOT exactly scientific method!!!!!! ( and in fluid that is banned by airlines)
When challenged he presented a photocopy of an out of date paper that had been altered.
He then claimed to be a researcher, despite having no degree, no university affiliation and no permits.
CAUGHT RED HANDED
so... ultimately there are only 2 possible conclusions
Either he did this deliberately, knowingly, flaunting the law, which would make him a criminal, or he did this in ignorance, would would make him incompetent. Personally I think it is a combination of both.
Furthermore this manly guy left his girlfriend in jail at the same time, instead of taking responsibility admitting and getting her out....what a mench, having someone who was relying on him for their security end up in jail too!!!!
US F&W or any European agency would have been equally or more all over this.
His ego won't let him admit that he screwed up. Had he admitted his " mistake" and apologized this would have been over a long time ago for him.

It must irk to argue with people that he holds to be so stupid.
An article culled from information on forums such as this one, from a guy who has never kept, let alone bred any stingray should be amusing.

nothings wrong with it

its far more respectable than mine :D

You guys are really worked up over this magazine article.

All bashing aside, I agree with the comment, internet killed the magazine. I get TFH and I enjoy the articles, something to read on the can. If I want answers, help, or prefer to read about selective subjects...mfk is the place to go. I always find it funny when I read mail articles in the magazine asking about a problem with their fish...I wonder how many peoples fish are still alive after waiting a month for the answer.

Magazines need to change to include more relative things people can't find on the net...and better, more professional photos of rarer species.

Sounds a bit fishy lol.

Hi,

just two things I want to mention and will not come back to this thread again and waste my time with so much ignorance:
1. This thread is about a stingray article of mine, which I believe no one writing here has read it. Therefore one should be intelligent enough to judge AFTER reading it (and comment on it possibly).
2. If my English is so bad, I wonder why PFK wants 4 articles in each issue monthly and 28 other English writing magazines. If one has interest before writing such bs look at my recent article list:
http://www.aquapress-bleher.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=49
it is only lately 734 and mostly in English. So much for my bad English.
3. Again I have collected, transported, kept and bred freshwater stingray (and many other fished before anyone writing here was probably even born (my first stingray I collected in 1954 and lived in their habitat for 6 month to be able to watch them with all the other fishes).
During 32 years, from 1965 to 1997 I collected, transported, and shipped around the world over 250,000 South American, Asian and African stingrays, I believe more than anyone ever did or ever will handle. I bred very few, as I was travelling all the time collecting, etc.
4. About Manaus, again Mr. David W and others I believe, do not want to read, as everything into the last detail is published. It seem they just want to invent things because they want to make me the bad person, or because they are jealous.
There is NO court case until this very day. As there is probably no case at all. The 3 accusations (which are printed and anyone who really is interested can read it) are all 3 for having genetic material. And anyone who knows a little about genetics, knows that anything in formaldehyde CANNOT be of any genetic use. And that, I believe, also the judge knows.
So mush in short for those ignorant guys which do not want to read the facts and just want to talk bad about some one instead of staying with the topic.
I ask the administrator to block this thread until people come back to the topic.
Thank you in advance,

Heiko Bleher

Vielleicht liest du das trotzdem obwohl Foren wie diese eh Zeitverschwendung sind. Du bist und bleibst ein Held und Pionier in der Aquarienwelt. Was Wissen diese id!oten??

actually he was smuggling unknown ( undescribed) species for biotech, clearly against all international laws. How he was smuggling was a joke, but he had been warned by many people not to do this, including the authorities, who had been watching him for over a year. He also never showed up for his trial.
So...how would you feel if some publisher ( NOT a scientist, has no degree nor university affiliation) came to your country , helped himself to your countries' biodiversity, perhaps a rare and new-to-science species, without any permission nor any proper study, and smuggled it to a different country to exploit, so that your country gets nothing from exploitation of its own natural resource.

Yeah the authorities watching him over a year. Man in the BD run came alsoP14 out of country do you seriously believe the Authorities the IBAMA has nothing better to do, then to stalk Heiko Bleher. How do you smuggle a non described species?? If its not described it can not be identified. Besides that i guess Mr Bleher knows anybody from the Fisherys department of the Ibama. You know what happend?? I gess some stupid guy from the border wanted to shine in front of his boss and it hit just Mr Bleher

Brazil is not Cuba!
Permits are not hard to get if you use proper channels.
So..some of you seem to be saying that it is OK for someone to walk into your yard and start helping themselves.
Innocuous biological specimens have yielded huge scientific results to biotech. For example, about 15 or so years ago a rare Brazilian leech was removed in a similar way. This ended up generating new medicines for anti-blood clotting agents and local aneasthetic, yielding $$multi millions for a non Brazilian pharma company but not a penny for Brazil.
Whether what this guy was caught with , and there were Brazilian press photos of the various samples, would have given those kind of benefits is hard to know, but the principle remains....when you go into someone else's country you respect their laws.
HB boasts about working with biotech companies....so...by any definition this is eco-piracy

Bio piracy. oh jeah .:screwy: HB describes unknown species cant imagine him working with biotech companys! They bad global crooks and it lays in their hands to pay back. So if we are talking about big bucks this story would never exsist use your brain Dawid please
