Suicide instructional vids on youtube kids app.

I guess my question is are there cell phones available that do not have internet or is there some way to block stuff and allow other stuff. I can see the value of a child having a cell phone but not so much the internet capacity. I get that kids want all the new shinny stuff just like all their friends. I know it would be a big drama to take away a kids smart phone but maybe it would be worth the grief???

Its not soo much the cell phones. Kids 10 and younger (just an example) for the most part use tablets. Youtube to them is like Nintendo or atari to my generation.

There are allot of benefits especially the educational science stuff. Ive been teaching him how to google certain things. Mainly questions he'll ask. I figure teaching the boy to be proactive and learn to think for himself is a good thing. Im not soo sure this good parenting atm.

The problem is, like the video in the original post, it can happen so fast. So, unless one is watching every word that your kid is watching, it's possible to miss it.

Very true. My kids could have been watching that vid and i doubt i would have even registered what that guy said

So we decided we werent going to take anything away from them and see how they reacted when they got home from school. Left the tablets out on the table for them. Neither of them even touched them. Had another talk. My son said allot of the kids were talking about this at school.

My 6 year old won't use YouTube now after my wife talked to him yesterday about the Momo thing. He's scared he'll get in trouble if he sees any of the videos, even though we told him he wouldn't, but he needs to let us know if he comes across it.

Mine son whos 8 is doing the same thing. My wife was brutally honest about the content of these videos (im glad she was) whats scared him most was momo saying she would kill your parents if you told them. My daughter isnt taking it as hard but i was still surprised that she didnt touch her tablet.

My daughter seems to know of "momo" but says she hasn't heard anything bad.

My wife's acting weird. She expects me to buy a router that only filters this bad stuff but still lets my daughter do youtube and the games that have this stuff on it.

Only my daughter has gone on it a couple times. And just on my ipad.

I’ve had multiple conversations with both kids over the past few days. They didn’t know anything about the momo challenge or being told not to tell us about it. They also say it was a video with teens texting and FaceTiming this momo thing. It gets angry and at one point slowly held up a knife before hanging up.
Part of me wonders if they know more then they are telling me, but I won’t accuse them of lying. Since I really don’t know what all they saw. I’m just trying really hard to keep my cool about it and let them know no matter what they tell me they won’t be in trouble or punished since it wasn’t anything they did wrong.
