Suicide instructional vids on youtube kids app.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My daughter seems to know of "momo" but says she hasn't heard anything bad.

My wife's acting weird. She expects me to buy a router that only filters this bad stuff but still lets my daughter do youtube and the games that have this stuff on it.

Your daughter is a little older right ? 12 or 13 ? My oldest is 8 so much easier for him to become afraid.

They have routers that filter content? The problem with these vids is some start out harmless.

Mine cracked pretty quick. He wasn't on much, but he still watched maybe an hour. The worst part is he was watching the catch'em all fish videos.

This is my problem and why we didnt tell them they couldnt use it. My son watches tons and fishing and nature vids. My daughter is the one addicted to stupid mindless slime vids.

Only my daughter has gone on it a couple times. And just on my ipad.

I’ve had multiple conversations with both kids over the past few days. They didn’t know anything about the momo challenge or being told not to tell us about it. They also say it was a video with teens texting and FaceTiming this momo thing. It gets angry and at one point slowly held up a knife before hanging up.
Part of me wonders if they know more then they are telling me, but I won’t accuse them of lying. Since I really don’t know what all they saw. I’m just trying really hard to keep my cool about it and let them know no matter what they tell me they won’t be in trouble or punished since it wasn’t anything they did wrong.
This isnt the 1st time we had to explain momo but they never saw any of these vids 1st hand. My wife was brutally honest a out the content. Totally agree about not over reacting and giving them reasons to not be honest.

I think my 6 yr old would have gone on already but shes following her big brothers lead

So apparently the new form of momo isnt the game or challenge but its some how being hacked into harmlss vids.

Pops up towards the middle of the vid.

I read a few links about its origin and apparently it was created by a special effects artist and put on display somewhere in asia i think. Then some whacko a-hole used the image to create this challenge on whats app and its spread. 1 girl in Buenos ares and 2 boys in russia suicides were link to this challenge. Most recently an 11 yr old in the Philippines may be linked to it.

This guy explaines the whole story pretty closely to what i read.

She is 9. The best I understand is routers block an entire website. It's either on or off. My daughter said the teacher today warned the class about momo.

The more dig the more disgusting this is. Theres quite a few of these internet challenges out there. This momo crap also can be found in fortnite. Apparently the videos or the game was hacked.

These stupid bastards as youtube are aware of the content amd feel that this warning suffices? Cmon man how many kids are just going to click confirm without a care in the world.

This is the first that I've heard of this Momo business.I asked my son about it and his words were "that crap don't mean nothin to me".

Thats the problem with the internet today is you really need to be super open with your children and have good open conversations with them, otherwise things like these slip through the cracks...

Just monitoring their use is no longer useful either, since all they have to do is goto school or a friends place and they’ll often come across or be discussing this sort of content anyway...

So lead by example and just try the best to have good open relationships with your kids... coz scaring them into not doing something, often leads to curiosity down the line imho...

This is so true.

They still havent touched it. I even explained that its ok as long as they talk to us about anything questionable. They seemed to not trust it. Been playing with eachother a hell of allot more....fighting a hell of allot more too but i'll take it
