Hey everyone!

So I have a 120g with a Gulper catfish and a Baby giant gourami. The tank is a fairly new setup (about 1.5 months). I'm running 2 Sun Sun 304B canister filters as my main filters. I was wondering if this would be a strong enough filtration for the gourami as an adult with the gulper? The filters were rated to handle 150g per, so I figured 2 would be good? Or was I essentially duped by this Chinese manufacturer?

120 will begin to look small for a giant gourami i feel (unless the gulper manages to..gulp)

the sunsun's are decent for what they are but i believe they are grossly over rated in terms of flow rates.
i have a sunsun on my 90 along with a 2217 and added a fluval submersible, and even then had to add a wave maker.

the 2217 is lavarock only
the sunsun is mech only
the fluval has a course sponge

Ill throw something else out there. My last 2 304b's both split a seam up the side flooding my cabinet and basement. I wasnt really impressed by the flow either. They did an ok job, but were a pain to clean.

They were on a 125 with a roughly 13" jag. They were better as a backup to say an XP or FX. By themselves caused me to do more maintenance more often

Like any canister filter, the flow ratings on them are grossly overrated. I believe the flow is rated on them without any media in them. Even so, twin 304Bs is fine for a 120g. You can always add an aquaclear 110 to handle the majority of the mechanical filtration for you to take the load off the much harder to clean canisters.

Judging from the responses IdI be better of ditching one for an FX6. Which I'll probably end up doing. I want this tank done right

I wouldn't say you'd be better off, but that's just my opinion on filters. I personally love Sunsuns and have had some in continual service since 2013. Not that this speaks volumes for quality/longevity, but for the price, I love it. They can ALL leak and all have problems.
