Teug growth thread

Hey guys, unfortunately the big teugelsi passed away recently. Teugelsi unlike lower jaws or really any upper jaws that get big, don't really get too much girth. This guy especially wasn't really able to put too much on because of the wound to his side. The problem with teugelsi, especially larger ones, is that without that girth if they stop eating they get noticeably skinnier. Mine ended up not eating for a good while and since he was already a naturally skinny fish, the loss in his girth made it hard for him to keep his large body on the bottom of the tank. So eventually the air pulled half his body up while the other half stayed on the ground, which contributed to his spine becoming messed up. Tried putting salt, and some more floating stuff in the tank in an attempt to get rid of the air, but it really never worked because he never started eating again after he stopped. I'm still pretty upset I could never get him eating again, he was definitely one of my all time favorite fish

As far as growth goes: in CB they get to 12" pretty fast with relatively even girth growth rate, but in wild caught they grow in length, get some girth, then outgrow their girth. They do it pretty fast to 8"-12" and slow down after that

Dr. B,

Sorry to hear about your teug. He sounded like a real one of a kind fish. Sounds like he was very well taken care of and loved. Very sorry for your loss.

Man that's terrible Dr.B Dr.B Sorry for the loss and having to deal with a gem that's not eating. Feel for ya there. Keep us posted in your poly keeping. Maybe, update us wit your crew soon.

Mines pushing 3.5-4" now. Still a skinny little worm but showing great color. I'll try to snag a pic next time I catch him out in the open. He likes to hide under the xl sponge filter in his growout

Well Tommy is a hair shy of 9" she spazzed out the other day and slammed into the glass a couple times now her lips and nostrils are white. Over the last couple days it has gotten a little better though

Still on track at about an inch + each month, now about 6.5", got it pretty much exactly 2 months ago at around 4", maybe a bit less.

Teug has started nipping a bit at my Polli. Nothing major, just shredding the fins a bit (not chomping chunks out) and she's not doing it all the time. I'm OK with it if it stays at this level and the Polli doesn't get stressed. Hope they can co-exist for a year until they get a bigger home.

Leaning more towards female but I am still not 100% sure, or at what size it should be obvious. If it is supposed to be obvious now, it's a girl.

Still a very pretty fish, and still interactive with me when I am at the tank. Not a shy eater in the least - eats anything and everything and is out in the mix like a little pig.

Crappy phone pics from today. I was out late last night so they have had 2 days without food.
