I just searched up hooters and I gotta say, you all made my day.Ehem i'll back in a while
Welp, instead of going to hooters, i went to Wendys for a frosty, a burger, and some ? . I come home to find my tank in ruins. I perform a 60-70% wc, and am doing another tomorrow morning. My pet sitter/nanny for me and my sister overdid it on the food. I GIVE YOU SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS, AND WHAT DO YOU DO? BUTCHER MY FISH TANK. Anyway, I am surprised that the fish survived 3 days in rank conditions like that. Now, Kylie, if that is your real name, dont be expecting another paycheck from this family.
If you're only going away for a few days there is no need to feed your fish at all, they'll be fine. The potential for disaster when leaving instruction for someone else to feed is very clear, as you've just discovered. You got away with it......this time!

Sad thing is is that everything sunk, meaning she probably put her hand in the tank to give the tetras flakes. She also came once a day, if you can believe that! It was probably my fault for not giving her step by step by step instructions (I told her no more than a pinch for the tetras, but maybe I should've counted out each flake or something). I also said 5-7 pellets for Sparky.
If you really need to get someone else to feed your fish when you are away I find the best way is to buy one of the pill boxes old people use with a compartment for each day. Pre load each day with the appropriate amount of food and you should be good to go away and relax.
Thats a good idea. Maybe next time lol. And I use one, and I am 13 for stuff like Omega 3 and B12

The last time that I had a pet sitter to feed my fish she was shoving food inside of the lamp, as she didn’t understand my fancy hood, and could not locate the feeding hole.
The fish in one tank didn’t get fed for four days but they were fine. They all got together and picked somebody to eat while I was gone.

Shoving food in a lamp lol! It sounds so dumb, until we realize we should have given themm more specific instructions. I come back, and I am like OH NO! THE AMMONIA LEVELS ARE GOING TO BE HUGE! Did a 70% wc, and then a 20% skimmer 6 hours later, and everything is fine. Of course, my sister so generously fed Sparky after I told him I want to fast him for a few days, but they are all good. Right now, I use a conventional Gravel vac for wc, and it is a lot harder, especially when you are transporting 5 gallon buckets from my room, to the bathroom toilet lol!
