Nice idea, btw that's not java fern, it's java moss :)

Keep us updated though

Ah yup I knew that, just confused the names. Haha.

But I definitely will keep you updated, but some time may pass between updates, as this seems to be a slow progress and a long term project.

still interested regardless of how long it takes...i'll keep my eyes open...been toying with a similar idea for a long time now

Well, some news. One of the guppy females gave birth today, in the tank though. I had put them both in a breeder tank but they both stopped eating and became very "dull", so I took them out of there to wait a bit. There is java moss in the tank so I hope there will be some survivors. I put the other one, which looks like she is gonna explode, in the breeder tank, and I hope I will have fry in 1 or 2 days. In a couple weeks I will be getting a few more females and a couple more males in the tank.

There is currently one guppy fry swimming around in the tank. Female still hasn't, what do I call this, conceived? given birth? lol. Update with pics as soon as she does.

acttr
how do you only have one survivor?

and is it common for a guppy to die after giving birth?

Only one survivor because the female gave birth in the tank, the guppies ate the rest.
And no I wouldn't say that it would be normal for a guppy to die after giving birth.

This is a really cool idea. I am very interested to see the results.

Great idea. I'm a new member today and I'm glad this forum has a breeding section. I have some guppies, mollies, and glofish that are breeding and my LFS wants to have me supply them (which makes me happy as I don't want an overstocked tank and really enjoy raising the fry) but we haven't worked out any prices. Subscribed =)
