This is my new piranha I got today. Does anyone know what it is?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most likely viral, like a wort.

It's called a chimple and it's caused by the piranha bumping up against the glass....

What size is the tank?......it doesn't need to be cut off its not that bad just make sure the water is clean...add a powerhead or 2 for flow do the rhom swims against it rather then the glass and don't make him finger chase or get him going .....the less he hits the glass the sooner it will heal

Majority of chimples are due to a fish being in too small of a tank

Okay he's in a 55 now but I'm getting a 125 sunday and will move him to a 75. I do have a power head and 2 hang ons in his tank the water is moving good as the plants are bent or swaying. And it moves the smaller fish across the tank when they hit the stream. I was told to leave him in the 55 until comfortable which it seems to be so I could probably move him once the 125 is safe to add the fish from the 75. I just got that message that it may be viral so I didn't know if it was different than a rubbing wound. Thanks

I've been doing about 30% change per week. Does that sound alright?

It's not viral haha.....what 2 hang on the back filters do you have?....and for a rhom this size that is 6-7 inches a 40 breeder would work.....55 gallon tanks are too narrow that's why he's been bumping his chin....

For water changes it depends on your filteration but I would do 50% a week

I agree with sandnukka a 40g breeder would be much better. I have my 6 inch rhom in a 40g breeder with a fluval 305 which provides him with good current so he's not hanging on the glass
