beginners vs advanced - - - they dont have to be labeled such, you could corral them by naming them 'general aquaria questions' 'basic knowledge questions' 'common fish questions' etc not to make advanced aquaria an elitest forum but you could limit users to a 50 post minimum so by that time they have the hang of the ropes and what questions go where

Yea, great idea! Adding more forums will definitely get MFK to be smaller!

facts are nothing more than educated opinions, if something worked for you and no one else, what little thing did you do that no one else has done, maybe you could share that opinion with us. now my head hurts also. my spelling, grammar, and punctuation are............

Trust me there are a lot of experienced and nice people on the site. Also don't go expecting for every problem and question to be answered here, the Internet is very useful. I visit some other forums that are not even a tenth as active, their general aquaria and fish discussion pages all have the 0 replies next to them most of the time.

The owner of the site has no will or need to bow to your wishes, whatever they may be, this site is up by their choice, it's a privledge not a right.

Sorry if this seems rude but I have nothing constructive to say. It's a shame that threads like these take away from all the knowledge filled threads, the ones you were criticizing, The ones people read and learn from. If you cant seem to find any enjoyment out of our site then take a hike buddy.

QUIT TALKIN SMACK DAWG OR THROW DOWN YO35FUNNY_14154.gif:DName some better more active fish sites.Once you get to know more ppl and help others too you will get more responses.Like somebody said before, you get what you put in.Sometimes you get more, sometimes less.Make some friends,if you see things go unanswered then bump it or research and help with it how you can.Its a fun site yet its easy to get heated in a large forum too but you gotta just know that after work and home life sometimes ppl are just worn out and wont jump all over other threads. As far as the kids,if you think you can pin point them then just send them to your ignore list. However, you can even learn sometimes something worth a crap from the dumbest dippwad young punk and be surprised.Ive got plenty of serious sites but this is more like home, good luck whatever you do.

In theory maybe a good thought. But in reality wouldn't work.

Nail hit on head.

There are some questions I see go unanswered. Some of them are pretty darn hard questions though that I don't think anyone can answer, or a question that really the right answer can depend on opinion so that's why they stay unanswered. Maybe it's a question that was answered before that requires a long explaination but could be found via search? Or us like you maybe we don't have enough time to answer every question?

Theoretically every question should have an answer in 30 seconds. But we all know that's impossible. Some questions I've seen sometimes I think are new questions we don't know the answers to yet.

I don't think for a second MFK is too big. It's organized. A place for everything and everything in it's place. All the sub-forum's are titled self-explainatory, easy to find, and every section has enough traffic to warrant it being here.

Ok, so I steered clear of this one for a while, but I see that you keep referring to the Salt section for your examples....
Where have you posted in the salt area, because I assure you, if you have asked a question there that has gone unanswered it may have simply been overlooked due to others posting threads after you, bumping it down, and NOT because no one cared to answer it.

If you have questions in that area, bring it to my attention now and TRUST ME, I will give you the answer you seek, as will others I am sure.

I have answered multiple questions over and over, and though I may link someone to a previous answer of mine, I am never too "Advanced" or worried about being "Interrupted" by "Beginners" to answer someone's question. There will always be that bunch of individuals who are more concerned with their post count than their value on this forum, and what they can contribute, BUT that DOES NOT speak for the majority of this community.

I work my @$$ off day after day to ensure people get the information they ask for and need - even if it means researching on my own to make certain I leave nothing out and breaking my fingers time and time again typing a novel just so that they dont have to go all over the net to find a complete answer, and I know other's do that here as well. And guess what I work two job too, have a freaking zoo at my house, and still put countless hours into this site because it's my passion. I take pride in what I provide for others, and ask anyone on this forum - if you ask me a question, it will get answered, no matter how many extra's you throw in.

Myself and countless others all over this site love being able to share our experience and experienced "opinions", and work hard at making sure that whether you are just starting out or a well seasoned keeper - MFK is "Home" and where you know you will be able to find out just about anything your little heart can desire within this hobby.

MFK is not about separating "Beginners" from more advanced individuals, and that is one of the beautiful things about our family! We ALL help one another together, and no matter where you look, there are always people thinking outside of this "Box" you speak of.
The widely accepted and "general" guidelines to husbandry will ALWAYS apply on a site which advocates responsible and ethical fishkeeping, which is what MFK does.
But that does not mean that we are drones stuck in a sequence pattern which has to be followed eactly. To think that would just proove you haven't looked through much because every single area on here is full of innovative equip. modifications, varied "unsual" stock lists, creative and artistic tank decor, design and contruction, and trial & error tips, tricks, and solutions, etc.

I suggest you contribute more and b!t.ch less.

I know i asked you to leave earlier but i hope you take a look around and decide to change the beat of your drum. Who knows, you may like it :) 40,000+ of us do.

The tid bit problem i see in the forums, is that a person will post an ID thread for fish, such as in the dat forum. the species will be obvious to most- like say an indo. It's these threads that have 30+ members post the same responce and keep answering it after the answer is clearly given.

example-

that fish is an indo

100% indo

indo

Indo

Indo!

10000% indo

indonesian!!!!!!!

Indo Dat.

and these types of threads go on forever.

where as a thread with a specific question to a specific area in aquaria, that few people think about, like a thread for a certain wed/dry part or what have you, Get no traffic what so ever.

so in conclusion-

there are many members here who keep fish- 40k+ and growing

But the overall experience and in depth knowledge level average is not very high IMO. (because the site caters to so many newbies (good or bad depending on perspective of more experienced members). There are of course very informed people and not so very informed people, But with a site this big, you can't know what to expect in terms of member knowledge.

my case and point-

People with in depth knowledge to certain area's do definetly tend flock to smaller more in depth forums.

only if they don't want to help.

(Show me the wet/dry threads without a response. I'll help em out:))
