Minnows aren't easy for a turtle to catch. Why not get him/her some earthworms or some frozen shrimp or fish? I know those items are MUCH easier to catch!

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Painted turtles are not big fish eaters, and worms are not okay for an exclusive diet. You need to read up on their care, and provide him with what he needs.

Um, hello? I've kept this speices of turtle befor so I know what I'm doing. I put some fresh lettuce in the pond earlier and he seems to have eaten some of it.

Fishy - it does not sound like it. You were going to get minnows, and you did not already have worms. And you will need to do a lot better than "fresh lettuce and worms" Lettuce is not very good either.
Again, I repeat, do your research, otherwise you're back to "should have left him there"
Actually, I would like to know what kind of set up he has currently, temps, basking area, etc... and what your diet plans are.

I say let it go. It will probably be hard for him to adapt to a captive environment. I understand you guys just wanted to help but if you really have the turtles best interest in mind you'll release him where you found him. I'm not trying to be mean to you guys or anything, I used to do the same stuff when I was younger. Just thought I would share my opinion. Also, if you do decide to keep him PLEASE read up on their care and give him a proper home.

This is the type of posting MFK should be about.

Beyond this point ( and the thing is increasing ) we are entering into flaming territory and I wonder sometimes how there are still guys ( or young guys at least ) who keep on telling us about their adventures.

I caught a lot of wild animals when I was young.. ( almost everyday ) It is a part of growing up into the hobby. Nowadays people are, thank God, more environment conscious, but still young guys ( albeit less ) need to go through the collection stage and procedure.

I say, let us cut them some slack.:)

Thanks for backing me up Miguel. You're right, it's just something young guys/girls do. I don't know how many turtles toads frogs snakes lizards etc. I caught growing up. These guys are doing a lot better than the kids who think it's funny to smash them with rocks.
Oh, and to the original posters, check out kingsnake.com, if you haven't already been there it's an awesome sight with loads of info. Keep us posted on the lil guy.

Thanks to those who are taking our side and not fussing at us for this. As for you santoury, if you are going to tell me what I am feeding him is not good for him can you at least help and tell me what I CAN feed him? After all that’s what this site is for. I am feeding him what I have available to me at the moment. I did have worms and other thing but I ran out of those. So take a chill pill and relax a little please.

Pellets, worms, crayfish, insects, insect larvae, etc. As per my recommendation to do research, you would see what they eat in nature. Some plant matter is eaten as well, but not lettuce.

send him to me in hawaii ill take care of him :)
