oh a store worker how cute most of you guys know nothing about fish anyhow so what..

constructive criticism really calling me a selfish dick you do fit the mold of a lfs worker lol

none of you are reading or using your eyes I guess because when have you ever seen small garde aquarium rocks that are sharp?? huh when lfs worker go to your shop and look at the bags lol they are smooooooth bud smooth meaning you could not cut a tomato with them let alone a freakin turtle

like I said to begin with I knew this would be a debate but regardless if you like it or not sorry NO SAND in the future and the turtles will be just fine because of it thanks for the concern though joker;)

Obviously you are reading and using your eyes. It is evidenced by your desire to recreate the animal's natural habitat.

I thought our ultimate goal as aquarists, pet owners, etc. was to view the animal in the natural setting. BastardFish, do you honestly believe that you, in the 20+ years you have been alive, have figured out a better setup for a species that has taken millions of years to develop? A better setup then the one it has lived in (and adapted to) for millions of years? If so, I congratulate you. My mind simply cannot comprehend that.

It is really in the best interest of the turtles to have the sand for them. You do need to get rid of the gravel because it can cause problems with them. An easier way to get sand in the tank so you dont have to have it covering the bottom is to getting a smaller rubbermaid container and fill it with sand and set it on the bottom. This way it gives you an easier setup to clean but also gives the turts the sand to hide in. All you would need to do is siphon the bottom and rinse the sand every once in awhile. Please put it in there for them we as pet owners should make the animals as comfortable as we can and make them in as natural of a habitat as well.

Er..do I see an Avacado puffer in the same tank? First and fourth pic? That's a far bigger problem than the gravel/sand lol

lol who said anything about a better set up than nature hell I don't even think my set up is that great at all. I just said it works and work just fine with out sand! I just found humor in this thread for Sunday because people think they know what they are talking about and make foolish assumptions like a smooth little rock that could not cut a tomato would ever hurt a turtle:grinno: and give me a break eat them right! They eat from the top water not the bottom of the tank because I do not feed sinking anything to them guess that was a assumption too
enjoy the pics guys and don't cry about my not picking sand..

Also to the person that said is the goal with fish keeping was to recreate the natural environment. Yes sometimes it is and sometimes it is not. As you learn more about fish unless you already know? You will find that they can be just as happy in an unnatural setting meaning not the brown greens colors etc of the natural world, and even breed just as often if not more that way. If anyone would like to challenge that statement than just do a post search on me, and see how many successful spawns I have had in the last year alone than can you same?;) However this was not a fish thread it was turtle so again it was fun enjoy the pic or not night night

:WHOA::WHOA::WHOA: YOU FOUND A WAY TO MEASURE A FISHES HAPPINESS????

Breeding does not equal right care. You showed your view on how you take care of your animals very clearly in this quote, my friend.

"The only thing worse then an empty mind is a closed one." I much prefer people killing or hurting animals due to a lack of proper knowledge (but want to learn) then someone killing or hurting animals, yet cannot take advice from someone else.

I hope your animal does not get harmed from the improper care. At least we tried. Good luck to you both.

Wow is that a puffer:eek:? I though it was some kind of small bass species. If its a puffer then its a reall hazzard and must be taken out inmediatly.
Now for the sand debate. The reason to avoid the gravel your using its because it aint a good thing to put in your tank, over time it becomes wared out and starts realising bad stuff for the water. Also there is the problem of your turtles injesting it as they get big and that could be really bad. Now if you made more reserch on softshell turtles or even wached them you would see how much the like to dig on sand. Also they are easily spooken turtles and they dart for the substrate for cover, only that yours dont find soft mud or sand to hide, they find small rocks and they cant dig properly on them. Again that isnt excencial to keep them alive but its a good thing you could do for your turtles.:)
For the rocks its that for obvious reasons you dont use things like lava rocks on softys, only smood stuff

stupid staement yes it does

they turtles are in prefect health and will be sand makes no difference

Then please explain puppy mills.

Or, if you want to stay with a fish related topic, guppies who breed in incredibly poor conditions.

well smart guy fish do not breed unless given the proper conditions and care. Guppy's are another lame comparison as they would breed in a toilet but than again that's probably the extent of your fish keeping ability's, so stick to turtles dude. Try real fish and than talk to me acting like you know what you are talking about.

whoever said something about a puffer are you blind or what? Who as ever seen a puffer look like that wow boys please do stick to the turtles
yes it is a small bass and no it is not messing with the turtles. I would expect they would mess with it much sooner than it with them. Also if anyone is about to talk about the future it will not be there long just holding temporary

In short I put this post up for people to look at the turtles not for a discussion on my choice not to add sand. I let you guys cry about it and throw your lame assumptions out that somehow it might actually hurt the animals for amusement, but don't think that if this thread were to get 80 pages long your comments would ever change my mind unless I wanted to. Sorry that's just the way it is and again they Turtles will be just fine I will update you later for some more fun kiss kiss..
