Types of Amphilophus

Just seeing this, so late to the conversation. For me, I’d pick a creamsicle Midas pair. I love large individual Chanchos and Trimacs. But I have had better luck with Midas pairs - just not as rough on the females in my experience - as long as there is a pipe or pot she can get to that he can’t. And the colors are georgeous all the time. My Trimacs and especially the barred Amphs are beautiful with the right mood - but can look faded out at times or when not in the correct location lighting.

Been thinking about getting some midas just love the personality of them. They are hard to find close to me. I have a trimac now. And i love that fish but its just something about midas lately. Would like to have pair in a tank or a few for that matter.

This is my first go with Amphilophus of any kind. I got five creamsickle Sagittae three months ago from Jeff Rapps. 20180906_151851.jpg
Ended up with three male's and two female's. One of each turned out as creamsickle, one of each turned out mostly orange with a couple spots of white. Final male is all white.
I kept the all white male. Named him Casper. 20181106_020249.jpg 20181118_095716.jpg
He breed first with the creamsickle female, but the eggs went bad and he decided to ghost her. He now has a spawn with the orange female I named Goldie Hawn. 20181118_095649.jpg

So to answer the question for me ATM it's Sagittae. May change in the future if I have a chance to keep other members of the family. I had my eyes on Lysoni due to them looking simular to Festae.

I've wanted a hogaboomorum for some years now, but have never seen them in a store.

I have seen them from Rapps before, but don't order online much anymore. I don't really have room right now, anyway. Maybe after I get my Cichla grown out and free up their tanks...

I would, I THINK right now, go with an Amarillo. I like the shape of their head.
