Ulcer Disease/bacteria problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mshill you need to read the thread and get facts sraight before saying ignorant things.the ray ate on its own the other day.nobody offered me kanaplex weeks ago my buddie here just a few days ago offered me some once i was already into a different antibiotic treatment by 3 days.i wanted to let the meds run its course than give it a break.do you think doing 3 days of one treatment than ending that one short and adding something else when i am not even certian!!

the ray did not come in with the wound that was created here and got infected.i a almost certian its from it freaking out "again my poor setup is to blame for that" i whipped it togather with spare parts and tank i had.it needed to be alone.

mshill that ray has got food recent a week ago i force fed it four times with a tube right into its belly over the course of a week. also keeping live black worms and live ghost shrimp plentyfull in that system.i know it breaths in blackworms through its spricles everyday and i see it chew a bit when he does this.it doesnt have a dent between the eyes anymore but the hips are almost poping out!

i am not going to kill this ray that wound is most likely heater burn and or damages from when it was freaking out.the bottom of the disc had serious burns that were from water quality ph and ammonia burns.it had a long shipment i think 30 hours.

HE DIDN'T CAUSE THE CONDITION- FROM WHAT WAS SAID, IT WAS BROUGHT IN THAT WAY- SO WHAT IS YOUR POINT?

HE'S NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE WITH THIS SITUATION IF THE OUTCOME IS TO GET BETTER!!!

5 WEEKS WITHOUT EATING- EH, NO BIG DEAL RIGHT? :screwy:

FAIL X2

you need to read the thred

Anyways forget the argument. And get back on the topic.

.... his ray is being kept in a tank and not being treated with anything, or anything else being done.....

Not so...the ray has been treated with anti parasitics and is being treated with antibiotics. the OP is also doing large regular water changes. This , to my mind, constitutes 'hospital' treatment.
I have had rays be severely beaten up by bad shipping before that took months and months to get right, that then went on to be healthy, fat and also to breed.
Not to mention the fact that this particular variety of ray is very expensive....and...as you yourself put it...just a fish, so why not give it the best shot at recovery? ( instead of a shot to the head)

UPDATE

this ray is still alive after 9 weeks of hell.it eats again.i had to tube feed it a few times during the days it would not eat anything, now slowly but surely this guy is coming back.i watch it eat black woms everyday now i am happy.in the end the cure was premium water quality in a crappy setup up tank

WOW

What a story!! Glad to hear that you ray is on the road to recovery....persistance has paid off for you, and in the process of reviving your beat up blackie...you have no doubt learned alot!

Glad that he has turned the corner.....

One suggestion for ya.....Get outta Calgary!!! ;)

The West Coast has GREAT water!! LOL

Kidding!

Keep us updated and good luck!

This thread broke my heart reading it a few weeks ago. It is wonderful seeing an update and so far the little guy is pulling through. Deffinitly not out of the woods yet, but such a positive sign that he is starting to eat on his own. Good job on your persistance, even in the face of some very hostile, and uncalled for remarks made by some other members. I commend you for sticking with this ray and offering him the best care possible. Would like to see some updated pictures though when you can. Are the wounds healing up yet?

great job!! this is true commitment!! i applaud you!!! PS i adopted a next to dead ray and brought her back from the dead and it took 2 months man rays dont heal fast when it severe !!!

thanks guys it was alot of hard work .for about two weeks we used to have to flip him over plenty times per day cause he would keep flipping upside down like he was dead.at one point he was swimming upside down like it was over, also the ulcer got so bad their was two bones exposed now the skin has healed right over thanks to advice from DW.
also to refresh i tube fed this ray 4 times by shoving a tube into his stomach and pumping salmon and blackworms into him.after the 4th time he would not open his mouth this is when i though he was gone.in total he probably didnt eat for 7 of 8 weeks hes been here.so when i hear storys of rays dying in a few days or weeks i blame it on bad water or something the owner did.this ray had a massive hole (with rib bones actually exposed) on him ,didnt eat and came in crap condidtion, also its claspers were snipped off by the exporter!
