weight lifters? Need help...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Been bodybuilding for 12 years now and competed 3 times, placed 3rd, 1st and 1st but after an injury and a little time out i decided id had enough of competing.

Sorry if i missed a few details and am just asking questions that already have answers but-

1. how old are you?

2. how much do you weigh?

3. how long have you been training?

4. whats your diet like?

In the youtube vid you posted you look....18-19 ? and your form was pretty bad bro. What made you decided to start power lifting? often the reason for wanting to get bigger and stronger needs to be evaluated but ill come back to that.

Power lifting is about low reps and heavy weights using compound lifts such as bench press, dead lifts, squats, leg press and military press and most importantly, eating BIG as its in the kitchen that we grow, not in the gym.

If and when you hit the fence you need to go over your diet and training, maybe your over training and not eating enough? sometimes if you simply switch up your routine that can get you going again.

Like bodybuilding the aim is to lift heavier weights as you progress but never sacrifice form for lifting heavier weights than your body can handle, aim for small gaols and just take your time.

As i mentions earlier, the reason one starts training needs to be looked at, so whats your reason mate? me, ive trained all these years because its my passion, its what i love, what about you?

As a personal trainer this is one of the first things i ask my clients as those that want to get bigger and stronger to impress the ladies or to be better in fights or to look good in summer, these people will soon get fed up and give up but im not saying thats you.

If your passionate about it then go for it, learn all you can and reach your goals.

Eat big, train hard-

OK just did a bit more reading of the thread.

not knocking anyone but those are pretty low.. however I am not really to talk, here are my stats, bench = 265, squat = 465, dead = 425.
I am 6'0, 185-190 depending on how motivated i feel that week.

Don't get caught up in numbers, yes keep a record of your lifts, aim for lifting just that little bit more every workout even if its only 3-5 kg its still a gain and never diss anyone because they cant lift as much as you, no one likes a big headed power lifter :)

You say you can deadlift 425? thats only 192kg and i can dead lift 355kg witch equals about 782lbs according to my calculator but so what? its only a number hey. Be proud of your accomplishments but also be humble.

Cheers-

reasons, i have lots of reasons, im goign to be a cop in the future, i fight and want to move up weights, and i want to start playing football again.
I am 20, i currently at this exact time weigh 187, im 6'0 tall.
diet to be honest is crap, i eat everything in sight. but i also dont eat as much as i should, maybe 3-4 big meals a day, i know it would be better with 7-8 smaller meals a day, but working two jobs limits that.

training wise, i was going on 4 years, had a really bad knee inhury from football, so i stopped training and was recovering, then got into the whole paarty scene and drinking and other stuff, got all the way down to 137 from 190. and lost all my mass and muscle. so i want to get out of that life style and become a better man, and train train train, get bigger and better. not to impress anyone but myself.

(today i just squated 325lbs 10x) I feel like I still have bad for though. but the only advice i get is from 18 year old roiders at my gym..

i'l try to make some more videos but i dont have a camera, and i always work out alone, usually...

Hey, glad to hear you put partying and drinking behind you as if your seroise about your goals then drinking and smoking is a big no no.

Whats your current workout like? Your form is bad at the moment but we all have to start somwhere, dont feel bad about it, check this site out-
http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/animatedexercises.html

Its the best place to learn the correct form.

Your diet needs some work too, aim for atleast 6 meals a day and not just any food you have around but high quality foods such as chickin, lean beef, tuna, basmatti rice, home cooked potato fries or baked potatoes and green leafy veggies, also try to get more healthy fats in your diet like fish or flax seed oil.

As for not having time to prepare meals having 2-3 jobs, there have been times where i have worked a number of jobs and always prepared food the night before and simply microwaved the meals at work, don't get in the habbit of thinking it cant be done, if your passionate about your goals then you have to be willing to do whatever it takes.

but i'm trying, i gained alot of weight, and im starting ot tone down, maybe get to 170 and then go back up to 195+ i dont think i will hit 215 by summer without extra help, and I don't want to go that route..

yea bro you're not mistaken, at the socal meet at johns I was about 145-155. but that was well over a year ago..
I am as of right now 187. but i eat like a mad man and trian almost every day. i take weekends off and rotate my workout routines. i dont schedule them out like upper body this day legs another back another shouldher arms etc etc...

Old benching video..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JIziQv9uPc

Yikes, your back is really arch in that video.

hey dude, i still remember you when you were skinny, but i'm sure you'll kick my ass now no problem (and probably sean and gani's - well maybe not gani czu he'll jiu jitsu iyou into the wall or something hahahaha )

but seriously speaking, keep up the good work. i don't know much about body building nor is it really my personal fitness goal (i want to be lean and ripped with definition and not really bulky). but it takes a lot of dedication and motivation and it seems to be what you have going for you. keep it up and maybe one day we'll see you on Men's Fitness magazine or something :)

cheers.

update of me squating
415 for three reps, I admit form was terrible i just shot the video to see how low i went, as you can see need to go lower.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nRKVImcccY

but here you all go, i'm 187 in this video.

edit, 415, 2x 45's, 2x 35's and a 25 on each end.

One thing that would help put on mass would be if you actually squatted to depth instead of doing a half squat. Pm me. I was ranked #30 in the world in raw powerlifting in 09 and #2 in the us in the 308lb weight class. I'll def help you beef up. BTW, competition (no gym bs lifts) are 650/565/705

Arching your back during a bench press in a meet gives more leverage, shorter distance and if done properly, allows more leg drive. However, lifting your butt off the bench is totally cheating and would not pass in a meet.

Nice thread, anything healthy is great in my book, whether your 500lbs and just going for a walk, it doesnt matter....
