Convict, Firemouth, Acara, Sajica, or Rainbow cichlid.

Of course you can get a green terror, but you will never be able to post on these forums again because everyone will roast you alive (they will already hate me for even mentioning it) but you will get what you want.

Apparently someone kept one for almost 4 years, looks like a nice fish to me.
That green terror does look fine in that tank, and my local fish store loves cichlids so I might grow something like that out.

They're beautiful but they have very thin narrow bodies which gives them an even smaller look. I would prefer a heavier bodied fish.

The Jewel I had was CHUNKY, they're awesome fish. Maybe not as personable though, at least mine wasn't.

I probably wont. If its shunned upon, I dont want to look like that crappy keeper with the oscar in a 10 gallon.

It's not even being "shunned upon" It's about doing the right thing for the fish. It's not like we're saying it's wrong to keep a GT in a 30 because it's fashionable. We're saying it from a place of compassion. And from a place of absolutely most basic logic. GT's have the potential to reach 12", a 30 gallon tank is around 12" wide, why this is wrong should be evidently obvious. But you're doing the right thing by coming here and asking for advice, there are a lot of great people on this site. Two of the better ones, IMO, have already commented on this thread in Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 and Gourami Swami Gourami Swami
