I've always been curious about this. If you look at the sides of the tank through the front, you see a reflection of what is in the tank. When it looks like the fish is staring at you through the glass, can it actually see you?

Ask the fish.

I know fish can see you. My goldfish will all come to the side of the tank I pass on and actually splash water at me to get me to feed them as I walk by. As far as what they can see and if they can make out different people or people compared to a dog or what I don't know. But I know my goldfish see me.

stick ur head in the tank and have alook for yourself. haha

They can see you...my Pink Kisser comes to the front immediately mooching for food, and my Pleco will "bolt"!

That reflective effect only occurs when observing from outside the tank. From the inside, they can see out of the four sides, and the bottom, if you don't have gravel.
