Whats the deal with 10" + Aro's with bare tanks????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have seen a jardini with drop eye

if you are saying that if aros get drop eye its genetic then i feel if we spend $$$$$$$$$ on a fish and it does get drop eye we should be able to return the fish to the farm as they are selling crap fish and are to blame for the problem

if you buy a dog and it develops hip problems before its 1yr old a good breeder would let you return the puppy so why should a fish be any different in some cases a high grade xback costs the same as a puppy

if drop eye is genetic dont you think the farm selling low grade fish should be shut down or return peoples money or replace a fish with a genetic defect

From my years of being in this aquatic business...I have seen alot of full grown black aros..but none have drop eyes at all.

So, bigger size = drop eye theory also does not stand.

yes Rocky i know you work in the trade :)

so can you tell me the aros that are kept in the breeding ponds do they have drop eye ?

if the aros that are kept in the breeding ponds do have drop eye then the farms are ripping us of by selling us fish that they know have come from parents with the problem

Yes, I know u know I am in the trade. Saw your e-mail to our company b4.

Ofcourse we will breed only the best specimens in all our breeding ponds (why waste time breeding 2nd grade aros?) and I can tell you...even from the best parentage, arowanas can develop PLJs and drop eye somehow...and one of the main reason for drop eye can develop is the excessive feeding of fatty diet as well.

One thing to know, fishes do not always inherit from their immediate parentage, they can inherit genes from their ancestory parentage too.

i understand that a problem can skip a generation but now the farms are on f2 and even f3 this problem should have been bred out dont you think if the farms were doing their job properly

i have sent a few emails to different farms on how they grade their fish and on the drop eye problem

the reply i got about drop eye was our fish are all from good stock and no one can say if a fish will get drop eye or not as its all down to how the fish is kept and fed

so with that reply from different farms i can only take it that its not genetic and its the way we keep our fish or the way we feed them

so which is it

genetic then the farms are to blame and need to sort the problem out ?

or feeding and the way the fish is kept ?

its different for you guys in SG if the aro has drop eye or PLJ you just sell it on and get another

what do u mean by this statement?

are u saying we are not good hobbyists?

simple question?

which farm would say they have poor stock? :screwy:

Is this a drop eye thread?

To give my opinion on bare bottom tanks, I like them. I think marshy has one of the nicest tanks. There is also a tank on this site with some grass planted behind the tank. That ones awesome too.

any farm that has breeding stock in their ponds that have drop eye and continue to breed from fish with defects are not doing their duty to the customer

the farms duty is to provide their customer with the best fish possable so buy breeding from fish with drop eye they are makeing no effort to eliminate drop eye buy breeding from fish with drop eye if it is a genetic problem

so which is it drop eye is genetic or caused buy the way the fish is kept

if its genetic the farms are to blame
if its the way the fish are kept then we are to blame

so which is it

no i am not saying you guys are not good fish keepers im saying you have more choice than us

after 1-2yrs of pumping you aro if your not happy with its development you can just sell it on and start again we dont have that choice

if you think that way then why are some farms aros not up to standard?

If all aros are of quality stock why are red aros often not red? Why are most crossback aros not 24K gold?

Please, theres something called marketing.

As i said, even researchers do not know. If its genetic how can you blame the farms?

You just want an answer to a question that has no definate answer yet, but despite being told so, refuse to accept it that way and therefore insist you are correct.

IF the japanese, singaporean and taiwanese combined can't get an answer, what makes you so sure you have it?
