Who else still uses buckets?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i use buckets on all my tanks. i run all the old water outside to the flowerbeds. summer time anyways. the 110 and the 40 are down stairs and i can run a garden hose to them to fill up,but the others are upstairs and those i fill up with buckets.

I use a 20 gallon rubbermaid container and siphon out the water as i'm vacuming the gravel, i do this 2 times so i drain out 40 gallons, i have a 135 gallon tank.. when its time to refill, i will fill the container again with clean water, add conditioner, and salt - than i pull the contain back to the aquarium and bucket the water back into the aquarium 5 gallons at a time...the whole process takes me about 45 minutes to do, very easy and simple task to do :)

Sounds just like me have to check into this python thing.

I'm honestly surprised that a lot of people still use buckets. Even then a 25ft python is only $30 at walmart. Really does make the job easier and if you have enough water pressure, creates a strong vacumn for cleaning out your gravel

doin it this way never bothered me. i heard the python wastes alot of water. is that true? never payed attn. to it, really dont know much about the python.

well yeah it wastes water because it runs off of water pressure to create the vacumn. dont bother me as my house is not on a meter! but yeah, if somebodys trying to conserve water the python is not for you!

too bad my apartment has a stupid faucet in the sink, the attachment wont work on it, I guess I could get one long enough for the bathroom instead...

looks like im stuck with the ol bucket lol

which part is theone you buy? http://www.pythonproducts.com/repparts.html

Lol, I used to use bowls to get water out of the tank. :D Then I upgraded to a hose where I sucked on one end to get the water going, sometimes I would end up with fish water in my mouth, choking, lol. But now I stopped being cheap and got a python, lol.

I used buckets until i had back surgery ( I would siphon into buckets and carry upstairs and dump refill with python ) , now my parents make me use a python at all times ( for tanks in the basement i drain into the basement sump )
