so can I put something else where the carbon pad is?

How old are your medias? When was the last time you have changed it? Do you have an decoration in your tanks? Driftwood, rocks, ornaments, etc.. Could you check those bcause there maybe some dead fish rotting underneath or inside those things.

well, the tetra has a thing that says when it needs to be changed so idk.. maybe 2 weeks??

and yes, I have 2 cave like things and a small lig in that tank... but no dead fish

Make sure there is carbon in your filter/cartridge. Maybe get a media bag and add some more. This will help eliminate odor. Would help if you can find the source but if you can't the carbon should help.

where can I put the carbon??

there is NOT a slot for carbon in my filter

it is a Tetra 30-60

I would try the 75% water change and if that didn't do anything i would put your bio media asside and clean the filter.

Several issues here... First, there is already carbon inside the Bio-bag pouch that you're using. Second, that timer thingy that turns red is garbage. It is supposed to tell you when the carbon is dead, but dont trust it. Third, that black pad in the front is your biomedia. It works ok, but it takes forever to cycle. Fourth, one HOB is not enough for a 20long due to the reasons I mentioned in my last post. Consider adding another one or switching to a better brand/design.

BTW, I have 2 of these Tetra 30-60 filters running on my 30g & it still isnt quite enough flow. Just not a good design.

Use an aquaclear 70 this way you will have room for carbon a nice size sponge and you could use ceramic rings. Also an aquaclear has pretty good power. Do weekly wc with the aquaclear and I can almost guarantee the problem will be eliminated.

Did you take off a filter on the 20 long to put on the 55? That may be your problem.

If not then I think you don't have enough filtration. Tetra Filters are horrible.

no, I didnt...

The 20L just has 1 Tetra on it, but when I take down my 20G to make it a sump it will be running 2 tetras and the 55G will be running a magnum hot a tetra and a sump =/ sound good?
