Why?

Hello; OK, as is the norm in so many threads we get to a place where there are differences of opinion. This is the way it nearly always works out so let me call it normal. We may be at the point in the thread where we go around and around the same points until the thread dies out.

So before this happens here is an idea. Someone makes up a short code of some sort for the various situations. For example only and not indicated to be the format for the code other than it be short.
Never kept the fish = NKF
I have actual experience = HE (maybe HE 8 for eight years experience)
I have read about it = HR
I have read about it from a trusted source = HRT
my best guess based on similar experience = BGE
My best guess based on nothing = BGDA
I am a troll and only care about stirring things up = CARP

The codes could be based on some other format such as bold print for actual experience, italics for opinion, underlined for from a trusted source.

The format could be something else entirely. I nominate Hendre to come up with samples of such a code seeing as how he is apparently the inspiration for this thread. Maybe he can con one of his teachers into making it an assignment and get credit that way.
Wonder how you got CARP...

Didnt op state the thread wasnt about hendre

Did u figure out the situation with the viewing glasses ?
Hello; I have not tried to get any of the eclipse glasses. Seems the good ones have a code from NASA printed on them. Not worth the risk to my eyesight to use the ones I have seen so far. Also some have been sold which do not have any thing printed on them and are likely even more risky.

I have some arc welding helmets but am not sure of the strength of the glass so will not use them. They should be OK, but a search suggested #14 glass and my auto dark hood only goes up to #13.

My guess is there will be lots of good images available after to look at. I expect it to be somewhat darker but there will be still some of the sun visible in my area.

You can only remove the glasses if entirely in the total shadow and that will be around three minutes. Just before and after totality the glasses MUST be used or eyesight can be damaged. I will experience a partial eclipse so anyone looking from here MUST wear the glasses the entire time.

Just out of curiosity why do people that have never owned a fish that someones asking about respond to a question they ask about the species? This has been eating at me cant bite my lip anymore hahaha. A lot of people are just regurgitating wikipedia or google. Im sure most people asking questions have exhausted the google search bar and come here to find answers from people experienced with the species or problems they may have, not to be told something someone found on google. Sorry long rant lol

I couldn't agree more.

I've never personally owned a dat.......

Anyone that thinks we are living in a vetted community, where like all other things in life, a good dose of common sense should apply, should probably not take part on public forums.

Kids with only google behind them will soon be weeded out by those who actually offer sound practical advice, even those who have never personally kept some of these species.

Even without ever personally owning a dat, I have enough personal hands on experience with them, and the science behind the phenomena, to give an intelligent response - dare I say the most logical response on this subject probably ever posted on MFK. Take my comment out of the equation and what do you have left?

Maybe I should join facebook ......

My point is that even those who have never personally owned a fish, can sometimes offer some very sound advice. I have experience with numerous species that I have never personally owned, but I also only offer any advice on those fish if/when I feel that I can. Not just for funsies, or to gain a higher post count, or likey likes.

People that talk out of their arse are soon called out.

Hello; I'll buy that for a dollar. I go along with this. I do not have to have had an auto accident while text or talking on a phone to know that it is a real bad idea.

Exactly. Or keep a full grown GT in a 29 gallon, to know that it's not an ideal environment for the fish.

Tbh those who are really giving bad advice or being a nuisance get pushed off to some degree

I try not to make stuff up, no point. Seeing from other peoples experiences is a big source of knowledge
