Wild ‘Columbia’ Oscars

Cant wait to see this guys get big, how often you feed them?
Been feeding twice a day. Once before I go to work and once when Im home from work in the early evening. Seems to keep their little bellies full. Have been doing about 1/3 water changes every two days to make sure they have clean water. They tend to surface feed well but a lot of sinking food makes it to the bottom uneaten. Maybe I should get something for bottom clean up? Bristle nosed pleco, Featherfin catfish? Problem is it would be be a keeper in the grand picture....

Well after the sad post from Jexnell Jexnell about the loss of his wild Columbia Oscar due to aggression from the other established Oscar it made me think a little. My original intention was to grow out the 3 Oscars to a size where I could see what I liked (Maybe 4") and then rehome the other two. I would then grow out that one fish to maybe the 6" mark and add it to the 300. Now Im thinking I might just grow out all three of the Oscars to about 6" and put them into the 300 so that no one fish would be singled out and killed.

Ya I would wait more, your two fish you mentioned are both bigger than Toni, not knowing their disposition it could get bad. I thought Toni was a calm enough fish so far, but she went on the warpath over something, maybe she wanted to mate, he wasn't old enough, didn't know what to do do she rejected him.

That might be the safer route. But I honestly believe you won't have any issues. We know the temperment of your pearsei and heterospilus. Plus they were already in community setting

Its been a while since they had a bunch more cichlid tankmates but they were used It. Some fish raised solo do not really get the whole social structure or pecking order. The Oscars growing up in a group should also fit in better too. The hope is for a smooth introduction when it happens.

I am thinking of adding more than the one oscar to the tank. I had been looking at pike cichlids too. And then maybe one other fish. So eventually it would be five cichlids and the bichirs. I miss having movement in the tank.

Todays updates

Getting some weight on them and starting to look like little oscars now
