These guys are so nippy at each other. My favorite #3 is holding his own and is getting fat.

Having never raised little Oscar like this... Does anybody know when I should see the eye spot on the tail starting to show?

Really did not get a whole lot of feedback on this so.... I quoted myself, lol

Just bringing up the subject for those who have raised tiny Oscars, At what point did you see the eye spot coming in?

Here is mine right after it was put in the tank, really stressed out.

It had its eye spot but it was like 5"+ already. I would guess by pics from Jexnell Jexnell that his was showing eye spot at about 2-1/2" but I could be wrong on size. Just seems like Ive seen tons of cb Oscars (tigers) that are tiny that already show their eyespots already.

I think it may be an age thing. It seems that all Oscars get them crazy camo markings as very young juveniles(lije yours has now). Then as they age they switch over to thier adult colors. And the eyes-spots come in.

It seems like my largest one has a black dot where I would expect to see his future eye spot but the other two are not really showing anything yet. The camo patterns also seem to be changing a little. Will try to update pics but tough now with the skirt tetras in the tank the oscars just wont sit still, they are constantly on the move.

Horrible blurry pic but looks like the start of the eyespot on the tail? The black dot looks to be the spot. Not seeing this yet on the other two. But this is #1 the largest of the group.

My thought was rosy barbs because thats usually what Petsmart has for a decent price. These are pretty expendable dithers so I dont want to spend too much on them. The other thought was black skirt tetras. Just cheap fish that could take a little chasing.

Or I could add a gold severum, green terror, Jack Dempsey, convict.... lol
I put 20 skirts in with my 4” haitiensis because petsmart had them for $1, the “removed” them from his tank one by one in about 2 weeks hahahaha
