Your least favorite aquarium fish and why

IMHO, flowerhorns have things very rough. Those massive yet delicate nuchal humps condemn them to lives of enrichment-free bare tanks, because enriching decor would break the hump.
I disagree, flowerhorn get put on a pedestal they don’t deserve. They should be treated like any other amphilophus sp. but ppl act like they are something special, rare or to be exalted when they really are just mutts, nothing wrong with a mutt but it’s not worth more than a pure species.
An olde quote nails it - “a fool and his money are soon parted”

Personally I prefer south american cichlids and rift lake cichlids over the larger central americans. They tend to be more peaceful with each other so its easier to create a breeding colony or biotope with other fish rather than just a single breeding pair.
Also, rift lake cichlids and dwarf cichlids tend to have more interesting colors.

That hump simultaneously puts them on a pedestal they don't deserve and condemns them to a boring life for the above reasons. I think you may have misinterpreted what I said a little, with all due respect.

Rifties are amazing especially the larger predator haps. I kept rifties for decades but I recently sold them all except for a group of shellies to try some new things

I'm just saying there are plenty of amphilophus colonies out there where all the fish have large nuchal humps and live in normal tanks. i think theres a user here by the name of sergeant buddy that has a community of big nuchal hump amphs.

Sure, you don't keep they with wood with small pieces that can poke but you can absolutely keep them in a decorated tank. same goes for Hatiensis.
Main problem is ppl keep them in 40b or 55's which is too small no matter how you cut it

No shade was tossed in your direction, only at the flowerhorn market.

Despite my hate for bichirs, I've always found lungfish mildly interesting (though not enough to want one). Probably because of their name.
