Your worst mistake?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine happened last week...I cleaned my tank the day before I left for the hunt, and forgot to plug my heater back in after. I was gone for 9 days, when I got home the water was at 67 degrees, brown algae everywhere, and ICH on every fish in there (IT Dat, Pearsei Cichlids, flagtail, silver dollars, royal pleco, endli bichir, etc). I usually keep the temp around 78 and NEVER have any problems. THe cold temperature weakened their immune systems. No one died, and now I have it all well under control and almost completely cleared up. Such a simple thing, almost killed the whole tank.

My is one of the worst mistake ever.
When i was cleaning my fish tank looong time ago (noob) days i took out my heater while it wad plug in u dudnt kno it crack when i took it out .si i put it back in the tank buzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz i shock all my fishes ..bala sharks pleco and othere fishes..ni one died but the
Lesson learnbala shark got a twitch n wouldnt go away

I used to move my fish around to diffrent tanks like crazy. I have had 2 deaths from this. know I don't do that nearly as much,

Not starting with a large tank and good equipment. I took anything I could find for cheap and am now kicking myself as I have to keep upgrading and it is actually MORE expensive.

I did a quick algae cleaning inside my 55g and grabbed a new sponge from the kitchen, cleaned the glass and dashed off to work. I didn't realize it was loaded with anti mold/fungus inhibitors and all my fish died except one x-ray tetra and one albino cory.

btw, some of those garden hoses have the same mold inhibitors impregnated into the plastic and could cause the same disaster.
