Largest fish for a 55 gallon?

true with most but the i'll give it to you, can sex jd's from a young size... +1 female jd:)
 
I would think that any of these fish would reach the lower end of the max growth in a 55 gal and most of these fish especially green terrors take a while to reach it. The ones that really max out on the larger end of the scale are usually grown in perfect conditions but you would have to prepare for one really maxing out at a large size and having trouble turning around in a 55.

I think a male GT should have a 70 gallon or more tank. I think a female could fit in a 55 gallon aquarium tho. male GTs get 12 inches on most occasions.
 
I went to a new LFS today and they had a huge selection of giant fish, however not all of them were labeled.

This one is my favorite, he was labeled as a Jack Dempsey but he doesn't look like any of the pictures of JD's that I've seen?

By the way, I know most of these probably aren't suited for my aquarium, I was just curious as to what they were.
