530g Tank Setup and Plumbing Help :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
JK47 JK47 so when I painted my tank I wasn’t very smart about it. Long story short, I had the tank on the floor and some paint went under the tank to the front paint. No I have this excess paint marks all over the front. I thought it would be easy to get off but not really. Any suggestions? It’s latex paint.

Have you tried methyl hydrate? It is an alcohol based solvent that reactivates paint enough that you can clean it off. It's usually the first go to for removing water based paints. I would do a tester in a small inconspicuous/ vital area first. I don't know if it would react adversely to the silicon so I would try to keep it off that if possible.

I am a commercial painter by trade, and we use it often.

The tank is made from acrylic and the worry is that the acrylic will get damaged.

Do you have a spare piece on hand to do a sample with? If you have already solved it just disregard

JK47 JK47 fires up the filter and had like 5 leaks so far. Four of the leaks were just unions not tight enough. I do have a leak at this one elbow which is actually the cause of that pinhole leak from yesterday and not the bulkhead. Can I just use silicone to seal the joint instead of recementing? What silicone?

Looks like I have a pinhole leak around the intake of the ultima also. Will try tightening but might have to retape.

Quick update. Looks like I’ve fix all leaks with unions and tightening ultima intake seems to have worked. Still need to fix the elbow leak and unfortunately my pump is leaking by both the intake and return. I’ll need to remove it and redo the thread sealant.

You’ll be happy you did. I love the ultima. The backwash feature for water changes and filter maintenance not to mention the filtration capacity makes it all worth it. It’s difficult when first setting up the plumbing but it’ll get easier.

Use Weldon 16. That’s what I did on my joints for peace of mind. No leaks.
