120 gallon plywood/acrylic tank

not sure on the loach it was a year old so i think it may have been stress i checked my water and every thing is normal i cant check ammonia levels but nitrite and nitrate are zero and ph is around 7

received some of my drift wood today i got my ATBA ramp piece and one other log. my stump should be here around Thursday.

i put some screen over my drains for now until i can get some more traditional strainer grates to go on them to prevent the fish from getting into the sump. both my rainbows got into the sump's mechanical filtration along with about 3 minnows one rainbow died the other managed to get to the edge of the filter pad and into some water so he survived the minnows also survived. all the fish seem happy with there new homes i hope i dont loose any more fish but if i do it is not that big of a deal

well i had to do some changes on my drains and almost over flowed the tank so i had open drains for a couple hours and the bala decided that it needed to explore the filter and he croaked. i cam up with a new style strainer that seams to be working well i took and got one of those 3 inch grain grates that are designed to fit into the end of a section of 3 inch pvc and it snapped into a 3 inch to 1.5 inch adapter which fit perfectly into my bulkhead fitting. the duck weed is all gone though it was too small and kept getting sucked into the filter. finally got all my drift wood in so the turtle will get here soon. but i came home from work yesterday to my wife telling me that there was water on the floor and i found that the top left forward corner was leaking. i took the trim off and found the area that was leaking and then lowered the water level till it stopped and then removed the silicone to find that when i sealed the corner the silicone did not completely fill the gap. so i re siliconed it and let it sit over night with a HOB filter running in the tank. i will re fill it later on today and hop i fixed the leak.

Nice build. The woodwork looks great, and you had a lot of attention to detail.

I would look a little more into supporting the weight of the tank on the wood and not on the screws in the wood. You made the correction in the front, but not the back (from what I see). Over the long term, I think it will be more structurally sound.

Good luck on the leak!

well i think i fixed my leak so far 2 days and no leaking. also i have almost got all the tannin out of the water from my drift wood. the water is about the color of lake water now slightly brownish green but i can see from one side of the tank to the other here are some pics of my stump. the rock on top of it is just there for ballast right now it wants to float still. also i found the angel dead the other day i assume from the stress of the water level being low while i was fixing the leak. so that puts the fish count at about 15 minnows, 3 gromies, 1 albino pleco, 1 rainbow shark, and 2 small cats

also here is a pic of my new drain screens i still have to cut them down and paint them but it works. i still have to rescue the minnows occasionally but the big fish stay out now.

also a pic of my ATBA ramp it is a piece of cypress drift wood attached with a galvanized bracket

to help with getting the tannin out i have added a layer of felt to my mechanical filtration. my mechanical filter now consists of two layers of quilt batting them a layer of felt

hey guys i got a question for you i am trying to figure out a way to lower my water level some more preferably about 1/2 inch. so i was doing some googleing and ran across this setup http://www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx

i would like to adopt this style of overflow but mod it slightly. i did some tests with a strait 90* fitting added to my current setup and it works great but a strait 90 draws the water level too low to keep the water above the intake to prevent slurping.

so here is my plan i am thinking of drilling a new overflow hole to fitt my 1" bulkhead fitting that i originally had in the tank. i would then take and add a street 90* fitting and add my strainer screen to it to prevent fish from getting sucked up. i would then plumb this down to my bio tower and add a ball valve in the line to restric the flow of this line. this would be used to keep the water level high enough to keep the 1 inch overflow line under water which will prevent slurping. my other two drains would still function like they do now with no restriction just flowing less.

did all that make sense?

here is a drawing of my idea
