40 year old man with wife and kid gets a job making minimum wage at a pet store? roflmao

I don't remember saying minimum wage... but whatever. I'd much rather deal with a 40 year old that has good knowledge, than a 16 year old kid that doesn't know crap about fish ( I know this doesn't change the $$$ )...

Second, what's minimum wage in the US? It's $9.50/hr here, I think....

So let's get this figured out....

Options:

1 - get a part time job and save?

2 - complain on MFK about not being able to have a boat, etc and actually NEVER achieve the dream?

Seems like a pretty simple answer to me...

I also mentioned the idea of starting a business. Maybe something that you AND your kids can enjoy while making some extra cash.

Anyways, it was just a few ideas, not sure why they'd hurt to try....

I totally understand where you are coming from....I am nearly 43....my kids are YOUNG....6 and 10.....they are my life.....My budget does not allow much......I actually emptied my pockets at the end of every day for 4 months of all change and single dollar bills to save the 600 or so i needed for my new tank, stand and canopy......My only time for splurging is tax return time.....and we need a new car.....My suggestion is to buy smart on your next car.....make sure it can tow.....Even a little Honda CRV could pull a bass boat! So could a midsized sedan....Save for a year.....cut back on something and bank the money you would have spent on it. I sold an old gold watch to buy lighting.....ebay is amazing......there is someone out there who collects whatever you have to get rid of.....Point is you can do it. Be patient and dont give up!!!!!

LOL, minimum wage is better than nothing, if your sitting around as bored as me.

minimum wage varies from state to state, some go as low as 7.25 and as high as 8.40. who mentioned minimum wage? Technically me, but that's what most pet stores pay their employees, so whoever brought up the getting a job at the pet store brought it up in a round about way. That's why you have 16 year olds that work there, they're just starting to get established in the work force.

i don't care how bored you are, time with your wife and kids is worth more then 8 bucks an hour. Either we we all agree that ranting on mfk won't help you accomplish your goals

Yeah... But if you had a wife and kids you would not be as bored as I am, I hope.

I do feel your pain, I just turned 35 and had set goals to be a home owner by the time I was 35 and on my way to retiring at 50. I am no closer to owning a home than I was 5 yrs ago and it bothers me to a great extent. But a wise person once told me "to each his own, in his or her own time". This wise person meant the world to me and she passed away last year on thanksgiving day.

And through her death a learned the true meaning of life...your kids, your wife and family will love you whether you own a boat or not. Every minute they spend with you with/without a boat means way more to them than a lifetime without you.

We all have setbacks in our lives and sometimes struggle to reach our goals, this ultimately will make our accomplishments all the more sweeter. You WILL get your boat in due time just like I WILL own a home when it's my time. But get this...even if I don't own a home or you don't buy a boat...it will never take away from the lifetime of memories we share with our families with what we do have...love.

I wish you all the best :)

Holy truth! I guess we have all faced some hard times, I fully understand where you come from, but, I also believe anything is possible for those who dream. My friend, dream harder, be positive and look at the "wealthy" fellas like an inspiration rather than enemies..Family is all, sometimes we don't recieve something for some divine reason, like when I wanted a Sea Doo and when out and spent all my savings on a pretty kind of new one and was sitting there broken for two consecutive years. I had to sold it like rotten meat to pay my three sons college. You have your family, you are blessed forever. Material stuff is a fleeting pleasure. You are not alone, we all dream pretty high and is not bad, is just not the right time. Hope it comes soon to you!;)
