those are some nice bichirs... only a couple misidentifications.
what they have marked as mokelembembe is actually palmas palmas and
the retropinnis are juvenile buettikoferi.
also the pics for palmas buettikoferi are actually palmas palmas as well.
and what they're calling "cf. ansorgii" are whats known as "Koliba"

this threads getting me confused...
in the next few years i think that rare bichir prices are gonna drop a hell lot.
probably 50 dollars in 2015?

I paid 525 for my Ansorgii @ my LFS... and I don't regret it. She's gorgeous. She was the holy grail, and I got her, and now I'm good. Until the bichir bichir comes to town, then I'll probably max out every single credit card I have instead of waiting for the prices to drop like they did on the Ans. :)

I would'nt hold my breath if i was you.
At the rate gas/oil prices and freight cost are going it's quite unlikely. Besides, it not a widespread species that's easily accessible.
Unless of course they start breeding them in Asia. However, seeing what's beeing done to the species currently being farm raised, anyone looking for 100% genuine specimens and monster sized fish would probably still have to pay for a wild one. And believe me they don't come cheap.

Yeah, you are definately right, since PBBxPEE has been already going in JP.
Somehow I am counting on you to bring in some PBB and also make the price easier.:naughty:

its true even though endlicheri is cb they still cost around 100 here at lfs and many people prefer wild caught then captive bred

yeah. i think it may be similar situation with Protopterus amphibius (rarest lungfish in the hobby for those who don't know), which is found in the same part of the continent as bichir bichir.

as for farm bred bichirs, i'm concerned too, not so much about hybridization because thats usually possible to tell, hopefully. I'm more concerned about the inbreeding and selective breeding that could potentially and unfortunately alter the looks of the fish, or affect their potential size. Thats why i don't mind the F1 bichir bichir they have right now, i think for all intents and purposes, they're like wild specimens. But i'm not so sure about say 5, 10 generations down.

u mean short bodied variety, albino, long fin, like what they are doing to the senegal species

Not just that. Most of the tank raised Endlicheri, Senegals and Delhezis are starting to look different.....say for example head shape...
And how can one be certain that a Platinum specimen is not a mut or a mix of multiple species????
