u mean short bodied variety, albino, long fin, like what they are doing to the senegal species

Not just that. Most of the tank raised Endlicheri, Senegals and Delhezis are starting to look different.....say for example head shape...
And how can one be certain that a Platinum specimen is not a mut or a mix of multiple species????
no i did't mean the special variety like short body or long fin (i'm personally not a fan of short body, but longfin senegal is pretty cool). Reason is you can avoid these if they're not your cup of tea.

What i meant was an altered looks to what is considered 'normal' individual. Like what Toyin said, a lot of farm bred endlicheri, senegal etc. look different in head shape and body shape compared to wild ones. Take endlicheri, sure many have amazing patterns, but i'm not a fan of a lot of the head/body shapes i see, and these are not individual variations i'm referring to. If that were to happen to bichir bichir, that would suck since its head shape is one of the main reasons i love this species, and of course its long body.

as for albino/platinum/etc. those would be cool provided the fish looks fine. have you noticed how a lot of the leucistic endlicheri have a weird head? :yuck:

true true.
captive bred fish do look different from wilds.
in japan they bred p. bichir bichir though.
obviously it costs alot there.

yeah but i don't mind these F1 individuals, in fact i'd like to own some :D these basically aren't different from wild specimens. what i'm concerned is future generations and large scale farm breeding. hopefully wild ones will be available so that won't even be an issue. Either that, or individuals from early captive bred generations.

yeah F0 and F1 would definitely be ideal. i don't know how high up i'll go, but i know its not very high at all. of course if the fish is free or dirt cheap, then i would think about it.

Like i said, i like bichir bichir because of how it looks (head shape etc.), so i care about that very much. i'm not in it for the rarity or the hype just so i have one. so i'm picky :D

so far the ones i see are all great looking, except perhaps for the ones from the Nile. somehow they don't look as appealing to me. Lake Turkana (and its tributaries) all the way :headbang2

yea.
bichir bichir have really cool head shape.
but i more of like the pattern.
so same here.
if soemone offered me one for cheap and its a f99999999999999.
hell if i cared.

speaking of patterns, their patterns are cool too when theres a nice contrast, although some Nigerian lapradei can have similar patterns. check out these pics.

if all a person cares is the name bichir bichir and not much else, then save yourself the money and time and find yourself a Nigerian lapradei that looks like it in patterns and maybe color.
